we made a reservation at 2:45pm. when we arrived we placed our order immediately. A few minutes later we received our starter and our glasses of wine. So far everything was fine and we were delighted to be at Benoitrestaurant as usual. Once our appetizers were finished we waited over 45 minutes before I decided to enter the restaurant to ask what was going on and be able to order another glass of wine because our plates and glasses of wine had been empty for a very long time. The lady at the host stand which I believe was the maître d’ who who’s taking care of reservation told us that there was an inspection going on and this is why nobody came to see us for over 45 minutes. I requested someone to come our table to at least clean our plates and ordering some wine while we were waiting. After another 20 minutes nobody showed up and I had to go back inside of the restaurant to let them know that it was unacceptable and we were very not happy with the service and then leaving us in the dark without information. Later still with no food, my wife went inside of the restaurant and requested to speak to a manager. The lady at the Host stand told her it was impossible to speak to a manager as the inspection was still going on. My wife told her that we will leave the restaurant because we wouldn’t stay any longer and we were furious. While we were about to leave the Director of the restaurant showed up and told us that the chicken was finally ready if we wanted it at this time. We had already put our baby in the stroller and were almost gone and we told him that we were extremely disappointed about the service He only apologized and we left. This is so unprofessional and this is a shame for this industry. I also work in this industry and deeply respect Alan Ducasse and his cuisine but experience does not reflect the talent and passion of his food especially in Manhattan. Something needs to be changed especially the manner that the staff handles issues such as ours. We have been regular clients of this restaurant for years but now our experience is very tarnished.

High and French bistro Fair with a great sommelier and wonderful atmosphere.

Overall very good food and service. The wine list is impressive. The one thing we found a little annoying was the pace. Took 15 minutes for them to take our order, took them so long to bring the ice bucket for the wine that the bottle was nearly empty when it arrived, took too long to get the bill, etc.

Feels like France. Tastes like France. Great service.

It depends what you wore on the plane! ;-) Jeans with proper shoes and a button-down are appropriate. My husband usually wears a jacket but I don't think it's necessary. I usually wear a skirt with boots or dressy slacks, if that helps.
