The recycling truck didn't pick up my recyclables today. Called the office to ask why. The female receptionist was less than helpful with a defensive attitude. Assuming the reason was there was a small build up of snow on the bins, though I'll never be certain. This is January and it does snow so if that's the reason, we are all doomed by incompetence and unprofessionalism. The woman took my number, stated she would ask the driver, and get back to me. Never called me back. Which is just as upsetting as the initial complaint. Also, they used to call with a recorded message when there was a holiday delay in pick up, but they don't even do that anymore. I guess I can just dump my recyclables in the trash. Thanks Tompkins County.

Put it in a bucket and mix it with your leaves
Mattresses are classified as trash and are accepted there. I saw a few in the trash pile just yesterday. If you are ever curious about any item their website has a helpful search tool to find out how to dispose of that particular item. See the 'What do I do with?' section in the middle of the page.' https://recycletompkins.org/
We accept clear, green, and brown glass food and beverage containers. Numbers are only found on plastics (we accept #1, 2, and 5).
Not for recycling. Yes for trash.
No, PVC pipes can be disposed of as trash.
Hi specific guidelines for our textile donation drop off are listed here: https://recycletompkins.org/additional-recyclables-2/
Some municipalities in Tompkins County offer holiday tree collection, check with yours to see if this is offered. Holiday trees and wreathes are being accepted free of charge at the yard waste drop off area through the month of January 2022.
Dropping off yard waste requires a valid solid waste permit and payment based on the amount you bring in. Check the Permits and Fees page at RecyclingTompkins.org for more details.
Recycling bins are available at the Recycling and Materials Management Office at 122 Commercial Ave in Ithaca.
Our office does not oversee curbside yard waste collection. You should contact the City of Ithaca or whichever municipality you live in for more information.
