In one $40 bucket, my daughter found a 7.23-carat sapphire worth $600 and her friend found a 4.125-carat ruby worth $350. Friendly staff and now indoors with music and air conditioning. Loved it!

Nice little place for the kids to go. Employees were very nice. They actually go over what you find with the kids. Very informative

What a great spot. My son didn’t want to go to one of the other gem mining places because it looked like it was “for kids.” We then initially planned to stop at a gem mine farther away but they were closed. My wife and I were hesitant about Docs initially for the “for kids” feel we saw in pictures. BUT this place was awesome. My 9 and 6 year old kiddos had a BLAST and are super excited to be sending some of their gems away to be cut into gemstones. Couldn’t be more pleased that we stopped.

We came here about 2 days ago. We did the combo package for the museum, putt putt and the emerald strike mining package. For myself, my husband and my 5 year old daughter it was about $61. I honestly thought it was going to be a big rip off. I was incredibly wrong. We did the mining first. It took my daughter 20 to 30 minutes to get through the bag and she had a blast. Afterwards they gave us a lot of information about a few of the gems/rocks we mined. We all learned a few new things. Then we went on the tour of the dinosaur museum. Looking back on it I would happily pay the $60 just for the museum. The manager (who's name I can't remember for the life of me. So sorry) took us on a personalized private tour. He was so incredibly knowledgeable and took his time explaining stuff to us and answering my daughter's questions. We were in the museum for at least an hour. It was such a cool experience for all of us. We'll be visiting again whenever we come back to Blowing Rock.

It is worth it. Best to get a big bucket and maybe an arrowhead bag. They explain what it is afterwards. They also have an inside mini golf with Dinosaurs!
