Fantastic spot to see Elk - we went late on a rainy Friday, it was just and a Big (75+) herd of Elk. The drive from Astoria is a pretty, but twisty, road, it's easier to reach from the Highway 26 cutoff near Elsie.

80+ elk laying down in the field. Biggest herd I ever saw!

Admittedly this is written during the late fall, so things will likely be different in the warmer months. The viewing area is a very large meadow, and the herd we saw was beyond the paved pull-off areas on the shoulder of the road. There are no porta-potties or other lavatory facilities at any of the pull-off/parking areas, so that may factor into your viewing plans.

Great elk viewing. Could use a restroom.

Questions & Answers

I've taken friends up there over the years , but I cànt remember what time in the morning you feed the elk for us all to watch and what months we are able to do this? I'm wanting to bring a few people there the last week of March\early April .
