Wonderful camping experience. Roomy sites. Our visit to the beach was terrible. Getting to the beach was gross and the first two feet of the water were gross

This is Saginaw Bay, a big beautiful nature preserve, a decent number of bicycle/hiking trails and a campground. (I didn't see the latter) spent 2 afternoons of my 10 day work trip there biking

I am not giving five stars because of the amount of flooding that the park is dealing with. Plus the downed trees on some of the trails. It has a nice camping area. You have space.

Went here while everything was frozen and covered in snow. It is super impressive to see that much water frozen. Was able to walk out onto it. The wind was no joke but it was definitely an experience. One of those places that had something interesting to offer year round.

I have just been looking online because of some of the reviews of the park and on some websites like swimguide.org it failed all current water quality tests and i dont want to put my familys health at risk.
25 per check the weather before you go some campsites do flood
Yep but I also live on Saginaw Bay so I see them every morning. They are amazing.
Use the self-pay stations either at the campground office or the day entrance. By writing your address on the envelope, the permit will be mailed to you. In the meantime, use the receipt as your parking pass.
Yes they have two cabins and a pop-up trailer or two I believe, the cabins are around $50 a night and I think the pop-up is around 30
There are mini-cabin rentals. They are 10'×10' and have 4 bunks, a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. There's a picnic table and camp fire ring just outside. You do have to walk to a nearby restroom-shower building. Call 800-447-2757 to make a reservation, or go to www.michigan.gov/baycity.
There are 2 mini-cabins, each 10'x10' and each sleep 4 people (two sets of over-under twin-sized bunks. There's a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker, and they are located a very short distance to the campground restroom-showers. There is no bedding for the matresses so bring your own pillow, blanket or sleeping bag. Outside is a picnic table and fire ring.
The campsites do NOT have full service hook-ups at the sites themselves. All you have at the site is electric. For water and sewer, you need to go to the sanitation station in front of the campground office.
One tent $25, two tents $12.50 each, per night. Three tents $50 (2 sites,) four tents $12.50 each per night (still 2 sites.)
S.O.S....save our shoreline, fights to keep from interfering with any natural aspect of the coast, so there is alot of seaweed type growth and that makes the swimming area quite mucky from old growth decaying and new growth living off of it, and they wont clean it up... although the sand of the beach is quite nice , there are plenty of features that make the visit worth it, the incredibly awesome State Park including the Tobico Marsh and there viewing towers and hike are Awesome, and there is a water park for kids near the entrance to the park that's not small and has lots of sprayers and toys etc..in case you're grossed out by a little muck, it reminds me of swimming in a pond like OASIS Beach in Standish MI,
There is a mixture of camp site surfaces. Some grass and some cement for RV use. They also have a few cabins one can rent.
State Park in Michigan has camp ground across the street year round so you can still enjoy the park
You can find the rates on the park website
Technically Yes... but it is kinda gross and smelly sometimes
If the site is open they will let you take it. We have been able to set up as early as 12:30 - 1:00
Full hook up is $29. (50amp) Semi modern (30 amp) is $25 Remember to get into park you have passport license plate, or, buy a permit when you enter for $17. Permit is good for all state parks
Yeah, I was there last weekend the beach was nice and the water was clean other than a lot of ice.
Soory not sure on that one. If you call the DNR. They probably could answer your question.
I think it is a combination depending on what part of the trail you are on.
Yes you can fish at state park
Most state park campgrounds are opening June 22
It's closed until further notice, likely for the rest of 2020 as stated by the official Facebook page for Bay City State Park
Right this moment, no. But starting June 22, you must have the annual park pass otherwise known as the Recreation Passport, which for people with cars that have Michigan plates, is $16 when you buy it at the park, or $12 when you buy it from the Sec. of State when you renew your plates. There are no daily passes for Michigan residents.
There are two mini-cabins that sleep 4 each - 2 pairs of over-under bunks. Each is about 10'x10' and has amenities - heat, microwave, fridge, coffee maker. There's a fire ring and picnic table outside. The shower-restroom building is just a few feet away. No linen, pillows, or towels are provided.
The park staff oversees the Saginaw River Mouth Boating Access Site, 6 miles from the park campground. Your park pass (Recreation Passport) is also good for that location.
If there is no RV and all you have are tents the larger the site, the more tents you can have, as determined by DNR staff. If you have an RV, then just one tent. You are also limited to six people per site.
The dogs cannot be inside the cabin unless they are service dogs. There are other state parks that do allow them in special cabins but you'll have to check the DNR website to see which those are.
Not for the general public. There are 2 such sites for those who are handicapped, which can be rented by the general public for one night at a time if no one with a handicap shows up.
No, you cannot. We are working toward building infrastructure to make launching there easier and then getting a kayak concession, but that might be 2-3 years off.
If you have the recreation passport on your vehicle it's free. If you need one it is available at the booth for $16 and it is good until you renew your tabs.
Cabin is $53 and no bathroom in it but across the street there is one.
I would talk to the rangers at the nature museum in the park.
Gates are locked but you can walk there from the state park
Yup clean too.
Nice park, good place for kids
The pop-up camper rental is $58 a night, not including $10 reservation fee. If you meant you are bringing your own camper, then it is $23 a night, plus reservation fee. You must also have a Recreation Passport when you arrive (www.michigan.gov/recreationpassport). The pop-up is only available for the summer season though the campground itself is open all year round. Contact 800-447-2757 or www.michigan.gov/baycity to make a reservation.
Call 1-800-447-2757 or go on-line at www.michigan.gov/baycity. With the reservation fee, you'll pay approx. $70-$75.
Basically just across the street not that far
The park has a 5,200' shoreline. The 1,200' groomed swim beach is at the far northwest end of that so to get there from Shelter 3, you would have a 5 minute walk. But if you're at Shelter 3 and just want a nice walk along the natural dune portion of the beach, you're practically there! Just walk down the fishing access sand path that starts a few feet to the east of the shelter, and you're there!
I believe you can camp there year around...
No, but mussel beach is right across the street and their food is very good.
The west half of the double shelter that is on the sidewalk to the swim beach.
Go to the end of the road at Linwood. Or go to Pinconning Park. Three dollars daily fee but before sunrise you probably won't be asked.
The campground is 100% reservable so the chances of finding a site that was not already reserved for the typical summer weekend (mid-June-mid-Aug) is almost nil. People do cancel so there's an outside chance but then why not reserve a site if there were a cancellation. That would save you a trip in case the campsites were all taken. Note: you cannot do same-day reservations.
The camp site has a fire pit and picnic table,, across the street at the splash pad, there's a couple. Not many and they're away from the pad and play place.
Yes, but they dont want ash wood moved around the state so i wouldn't bring that.
Yes it is. The beach is beautiful. Not any dead fish or anything to make it bad.
They did a great job cleaning up the beach this year, it was great to swim in. There's also a great splash pad close by the beach area.
If you want one of the pavilions you need to reserve it on the website and the cost is approximately $50 for the day.
Very pet friendly. Groomed and paved trails to walk, run or bike on.
Yes you can. Just use the trail to get out to the beach and you'll be fine. Wear a helmet and only 1 person per machine because they will ticket you.
It is in Feburary. I want to say the 22 and 23. It you call the dnr of bay city they will tell you since it is across the street and they have the neon sign at the park
Is theRe any exceptions to stay there threw the winter until first of may?
Check-in time is 3PM all year. In the winter, when staff is not readily available, use the yellow phone at the campground office porch to check-in, or to rent a campsite (credit card, cash, or check). There is also a self-pay kiosk (cash or check) at the same location if the yellow phone service is not available
Tents are welcomed even it's no different to the cost unless you rent a tent yeah that cost a little extra but if your not a tent person they also have cabins small cabins
Yes
Starting in June of 2017, the park is employing a "mobi-mat" for wheelchair accessibility from the wooden swim beach boardwalk to the 1,200' long swim beach. That will be in place for summer seasons only. There is also a "mobi-chair" that can be borrowed for accessibility into the swim beach waters. The new coastal boardwalk, which provides a quick route to the natural shoreline (ungroomed 4,000' portion of the park's shoreline used for nature viewing, not designated for swimming), is also handicap accessible.
The overnight fees have gone up, as of Nov. 1, 2017. 30-amp sites, which constitute about 95% of all sites, are now $25. 50-amp sites are $29.
