Getting Botox for the first time made me quite anxious. I looked around at a few different Santa Barbara locations before settling on SB Aesthetics and Dr. Sheffield. When I was nervous about my first visit, he listened carefully to my concerns and addressed them. I'm really love the results. In addition to being incredibly skilled, he also has a keen eye for detail. I've referred a couple of friends to him and they were also very happy with their results. I've already scheduled my next visit and I can't wait to go back!

Absolutely fantastic! .... To date, I've had Botox twice, and both experiences were fantastic. The office is simple and very clean, he's an absolute pro, and he patiently walks you through the entire procedure. Expert in aesthetic plastic surgery; would recommend him to anyone thinking about getting Botox. Going back for fillers on my next visit in 3 months.

In general, Botox lasts 3-4 months. There will certainly be patients in which in lasts longer, in that 4-6 month range, or shorter, in that 2-month range. It is also common for first-timers to notice that it may not last as long initially but may last longer after the second treatment.

This is normal concern that patients have in their minds before undergoing Botox. Remember that Botox injection is a treatment requiring a patient to undergo a medical procedure. In this light, it should only be done by a medical professional. It can be done by a medical practitioner like a doctor or it can also be done by a licensed nurse who is under the expert supervision of an on-site doctor. That said, there really are no uniform standards in terms of training for this procedure. However, it is always best to ensure that this medical procedure is done in a clinical setting rather than anywhere else since the in a clinic setting there will always be a supervising doctor around. Moreover, you would also want your medical practitioner to fairly disclose the substances that they will be injecting and discuss the possible risks as well as benefits of the procedure. If your Botox injector veers away from these, you should steer clear from them. At SB Aesthetics, all Botox injections are performed by Dr. Robert W. Sheffield, who is a board-certified plastic surgeon.
In essence, Botox functions by permanently connecting to receptors that transmit nerve signals for the muscles to contract. However, since the body creates new neurotransmitters and receptors frequently, patients will have varying lengths of Botox effectiveness. The range is at about 2 to 6 months, but the average is roughly 3 to 4 months at best. It may start to get a little complex right here, but stay with me. Botox is a labile or easily altered protein. This means that Botox is sensitive to factors such as excessive agitation, heat, as well as time. It is then essential that we use it with careful reconstitution. It should be used fresh and kept refrigerated at all times. So it would be best to beware of clinics, offices, and spas that has “Botox Days” particularly if that is a Friday. These offices simply try to dispose reconstituted Botox so that it will lose its effectiveness over the weekend. Botox on Monday morning are also the same. Another factor that contributes to Botox effectiveness is the accuracy and skill of the one who will perform Botox treatment. Botox works wherever it is injected. So, simply injecting a blob in a general location will be a waste. Always consider if the injector has training and experience in injecting Botox patients.
The goal in a number of patients is also to lift the brow to a more youthful position. This is accomplished by blocking the depressors of the brow. The frown muscles and your squinting muscles around the eye are the main ones which are weakened or blocked with Botox. This allows the muscle of the forehead to compensate enough to raise the brow. Careful placement of Botox and a follow up visit to your injector usually a week after your injection would confirm the exact amount needed and your clinical response.
After every Botox procedure, I always inform my patients to wait for about 3 days or 72 hours, at the very least, for the effects to onset. It could possibly take longer though since our bodies have varying reactions to Botox. Another approach that I do is giving a mild dose of Botox to my patients. If the effect is not very strong, we can always give more. I believe that giving a lot right on the get-go could produce a longer wait time of up to 4 months, just so the Botox would be fully absorb. Giving more units if the initial one did not provide the needed results could be more helpful than trying to resolve it all at once. Again, typically it could take 72 hours at the least, but it could go longer depending on the absorption rate of the body or the results that the patient may want to achieve.
