This was absolutely useless I waited for over half an hour only to be told I need to call a different number. I called that number and no choice to talk to someone about identity fraud

This was good.

Absolutely the worst office I’ve ever dealt with. I call to make sure I have the proper documentation and am still turned away when I got there. They were turning away everyone in front of me as well for not having the ‘proper documents.’ The people in this office clearly do not want to do their jobs and I would recommend going anywhere else if you can.

They never answer the phone 😡

No you can change direct deposit information over the telephone. You will be required to answer 6 identifying questions and must provide the current direct deposit information, bank routing number and account number as well as the new direct deposit information. The easiest way is to have checks available for the old and new account. You can also change your direct deposit on our website www.socialsecurity.gov through your MYSSA account. Regards

Hi Jeff, I'm sorry to hear of your situation. Although the scheduling of hearings isn't handled by our office, we can reach out to the hearings office and let them know of/reiterate your dire circumstance. To do that, we'd need a bit more information from you. Please call us at (877) 619-2851 so that we can ask you some identifying information, access your record, and add a dire need/homeless flag to your case. That could help get you a hearing date as soon as possible. Stay safe Jeff. Hope to hear from you soon.

What a joke, people could go everywhere and there’s plexiglass set up. These hearing offices only do a FEW hearings a day and limit the number of people they allow in there to begin with.
Please contact us via telephone at 1-800-772-1213 and we will update your address. Thank you

Thank you for the question. You can complete the process through the mail but we do need to see original documents such as the divorce decree, marriage certificate or probate document that verifies the reason for the name change. We cannot accept photocopies. You can download the social security number application on our website. www.ssa.gov.
You will need to provide a form of ID when you request a replacement social security card. We can accept many forms of IDs such as a passport. Please check our website for the full list. www.ssa.gov
No, the city you reside in is the city you have to go to so if you live in Hartford you have to go to Hartford.
Hello Mr. Giangiulio, I assume your question is in reference to obtaining an initial Social Security number for your child. If so, below is the address to our website that breaks down exactly what you need: https://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm We wish you and your family a happy new year!
No sorry we do not renew passports here. You can renew your passport in many post offices.
Yes. Everyone who's on disability can try to work. You need to make an appointment with SSA to discuss your particular case. My daughter is on ssi and has worked 4 hrs per week for over 9 yrs. But still gets SSI cus it's not substantial work.
Thank you for your question. Social Security pays disability benefits to people who can't work because they have a medical condition that's expected to last at least one year or result in death. Find out if you qualify and how Social Security can help you by using our disability planner on our website: www.ssa.gov/benefits/disability/ Regards.
You need to get the list of documents they will accept like proofs of identity. Then call for an appointment.
Hi Joan, Thank you for reaching out. Although the process can be completed through the mail, it is important to note that your original ID document (One of a US passport, drivers license, state ID card, etc.) must be mailed along with the signed and completed Replacement Card application (SS-5). If you are hesitant to mail an original document, you can always visit our office to complete your transaction, and do not need to make an appointment. I hope you find this helpful and you have a wonderful day! Social Security- Hartford, CT
Hi Sorry to hear this. Unfortunately, you will have to go into an office with identification and the correct banking information. We can update your account with the correct banking information and make sure you receive any misdirected benefits. In order to change a direct deposit over the phone, our security requirements include you providing us with the account information on the record. In this situation that would be impossible. The other way you can update your direct deposit is through your MYSSA account online. If you have not already done so, go to www.socialsecurity.gov and set up a MYSSA account and you can make changes to your record including direct deposit changes online. Hope this helps.
For a replacement social security card, you will need ID for yourself as the mother which is a Drivers license, State ID or passport and ID for your son that contains his full name and date of birth such as a medical record or a school record. We cannot accept birth certificates for a replacement social security card. If this is a request for his first social security card, you will need to bring his birth certificate and the above mentioned identification for him. Additionally, bring his Dad's death certificate so we can see if your son is eligible for survivor's benefits on his Dad's record. Sorry for your loss.
You may request your benefit verification - budget sheet online and print it . You will first need to establish a MYSSA account. Please go to our website at www.socialsecurity.gov or call us at 1-800-772-1213 and we can text or email you a link to set up a MYSSA account. Thank you
Upon your request, SSA will send text with links to online services and program information. This is general information and not specific to any individual's account or personal information. SSA would not send a text that your account has been suspended. If you have questions regarding your individual MYSSA online account and would like to speak with a representative, please call 1-800-772-1234. Thank you
Good morning Yelena, Congratulations on becoming a citizen! Unfortunately, citizenship changes cannot be done online. Please mail in a completed Social Security replacement card application along with your original documents (ID, citizenship) to make the change. You could also decide to visit our office with the documents and get it done that way. Enjoy your day, Social Security
In most situations there is not any type of emergency assistance. However, if you are being paid your retroactive benefits in installments, we may be able to pay you some of your back money early than 6 months. Please contact your local Social Security office to find out if this applies in your case. Also, 211 Infoline is a great resource. Call 211 and explain your situation. They are aware of all the local programs and agencies that may be able to help you. They can provide you with referrals. All the best to you.
You can make a report of fraud online: https://oig.ssa.gov/report or by calling the fraud hotline at 1-800-269-0271. Thank you
