I was looking to adopt a kitten and decided to go to last hope. From the second I went there, I knew it was a mistake. I spoke to several different people whom most of were rude and each one had informed me different information when it came to filling out application/adopting an animal. I was originally told to fill out an application and come in the next day with anyone over 25 since i’m only 21 years old. So I came in with my aunt the next day. They let me play with the cat and everything. last minute they inform me a parent actually needs to fill out the application/ consent. I told them my mother and I will come in the next day. Complete waste of me and my aunts time. Later on that night, I get a phone call from the shelter from someone extremely rude, asking me extremely inappropriate, invasive questions about my family life as i’m 21 years old. i ask them to please speak to my mother but they went on with basically denying me the kitten even before they met with my mother the next day. My mother went in the next day herself explaining everything and they didn’t even have the decency to give us a phone call back afterwords. There’s no doubt in my mind this facility jerked me around because i’m just a young girl and have other cats. however i couldn’t be more glad that I didn’t support this so called “organization”. The two ladies who really ruined this experience for me names are Jane and Mary. No hard feelings! I got a new kitten from a different shelter and he has a great loving home!

Staff is helpful. Woman at front desk informed me they were closing soon which they said is 5pm. On they're website says 7pm which I would have waited had I known. Then on my way out she said "we're closed what do you want I'll give you 2 minutes of my time" remove the witch and you'll had a stellar establishment. Extremely unprofessional for a place depending on people to adopt their homeless pets. Otherwise clean.

Always helpful. Love the ladies there. They always tried to help.

They truly love the animals here and work hard to get them adopted.

They are a NO-kill shelter.
How to adopt kittens
I paid for two kitten $125. You need to go to their website and fill out adoption papers.
Yes. You must personally go by and fill out an application. I believe they accept new recruits in September unless there is some other special arrangement made.
I called n if I can get cat into case I can bring
None of our dogs cost $500.00. You should have changed the Chip to your Contact info and this would not have happened. Take some responsibility. You did not have a collar with your contact info, and never updated the Chip, what do you expect?
Sorry, only dogs and cats. Babylon Shelter may have some.
You can bring the cat to Hempstead animal shelter in Wantagh. Is the cat friendly?
You'd have to call them and ask. They may tell you to go online to fill out the application.
You need proof of residence, and they do a home visit.
I am not sure, but I believe the animals are in the building and you can actually meet them. I saw people in the parking lot walking dogs and I saw people in private rooms that appeared to be meeting the animals to see if they were going to adopt. I think you should drive there, go in and talk to someone. When I tried calling no one ever answered phone. I'm sorry about your loss, I too just lost my baby of 16 years. I believe Saturday is the best day for you to go there. It's a lovely place to find a great fur baby to love.
It is not
No, sorry. Cats and dogs only.
They do butbthey dont use it for their dogs. They give it away. Try the town of hempstead right next door.
If you have other government id, like a passport.
Go to North shore animal league. They are a no kill shelter
It is a "no-kill" shelter. You can try there, North Shore Animal League, it contact Beth Stern on social media
No. The dog and cat adoption run separately
Yes, we do, but the "dog side" and the "cat side" operate under different supervisors. I only do cats, so I can tell you that cat volunteer orientations are on a regular basis-look on fb or the last hope website for the next one. Dogs? Not sure how they decide on new volunteers...good luck!
I think they accept them
God bless you, what a noble cause. Are you able to care for yourselves? I will repost this on Facebook for you for now to see if any one is interested in taking over your life's work. I would suggest calling some of the local shelters like this one.
Put some food out. Then approach it slowly and get it to trust you. Talk softly as you approach. Once it let's you pet it, you can slowly move to picking it up and putting it in a carrier or box to bring it to the shelter.
I Volunteer and we do not take animals from private individuals. Town Shelter takes dogs and cats. There is a LI Rabbit Rescue.
If course, come down and fill out an Application. Check online what is required.
Yes, only dogs and cats. Do not normally take from the public, usually other Shelters.
You can but be aware that if you bring it back and try to get another in place of it you will be put on a list where you won't be able to adopt another pet at all
I'm really not sure. However, if you are interested in volunteering, you can go and fill out a form during their hours of operations. They only accept volunteers during certain months. It's an odd place.
Yes, volunteers are expected to be at least 12 years old.
Absolutely not!!! We save animals from other Shelters
Call the Wantagh Center to confirm I work with the cats. We use many different brands and varieties. Thank you so much for your Donations.
Open 365 days a year. Animals need to be cared for. Love for you to adopt
Call North shore animal league. They come out and rescue.
Town of Hempstead IS A KILL SHELTER.
Always a mix of dogs, and cats and kittens for Adoption Come down to visit the animals we have.
Sorry, just cats and dogs
Sorry, not sure. I volunteer with the cats. Call or stop by to see if he is there
Always surrender to privately owned shelters. They have a no kill policy. Publicly owned shelters are kill shelters. They must, too keep the numbers down. Take a gorgeous picture and post it on an animal rescue site. DO NOT post publicly. People use dogs to fight and as shark bait while fishing. Only post to rescue groups, with a picture. And make sure you know where they're going. Don't just release him. I'm sorry you have to part with him. They're beautiful dogs! Go to Southampton rescue. They're wonderful. Or ARF.
We do not normally take animals from owners. The Town Shelter would. If we did, you would have to pay the normal Adoption Fee. We are all volunteers and dpnations.
We sometimes get German Shepard mixes. It’s a rescue so it depends on if we have any so it’s not guarenteed. The price of adopting depends on the Age of the dog
Go online and research low cost spray and neuter programs. You can also ask the local vet if he knows any volunteers that trap. Good luck.
