Beautiful location. We enjoyed the walk to the lighthouse.

Point Cabrillo is one of the most scenic lighthouses on the coast. By this, I refer to the color used on the lighthouse as well as it architecture. I have used this stop on several road tours as it is a chance to get out and stretch but also offers some great picture opportunities. The lighthouse is well maintained and there are some rentals on the site for those wanting a unique experience. The only knock to the site is the parking. The main lot is a hoof and while not hard, is a treck. If you have kids though it is a chance to wear them out a bit as the probably have been couped up in the car a while.

Great lighthouse! The wife and I love lighthouses and seeing how they lived and what a hard job they had. This lighthouse is unique like Pigeon Point Lighthouse in that they both have Fresnel lenses still in use. At this lighthouse the …

Where do I begin? My parents and I decided to rent the 2nd Assistant Lightkeeper’s House for my birthday and it was amazing. My birthday lands in November so it’s a bit chilly and wet. The house is cozy and beautiful. It has everything …

Hi Kathy! If you have an ADA placard, you may park down near the lighthouse, in the accessible parking spaces! If not, it's a half mile walk on a paved road to get to the lighthouse from our regular parking lot. If a person in your party is having trouble walking (but you have no placard), then another of your party can drop them off at the accessible spots and then drive back to park in the regular parking lot.
Hi June! There are two thoughts on this. The name Cabrillo comes from European explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, who sailed for the Spanish in the 1500s. However, there is some debate about whether he was born in Spain or Portugal. Had he been Portuguese, the pronunciation would be "CABRILL-LOW", pronouncing hard L's. However, if he was born in Spain, the correct pronunciation would be "CABREE-YO" in the Spanish tradition. We all choose to pronounce it in our own way here at the Light Station - whatever rolls off the tongue the easiest! Our lightkeepers and most of the folks who lived in this area back in the early years of the Light Station historically pronounced it "CABRILL-LOW", so many of us have adopted that pronunciation too. Great question!
