Amazing experience. I would only say anyone taking multiple children under the age 10 to make sure you have support/backup. The path down, and the river itself are not a joke to even seasoned river rats. Just a slip can take you or a loved one down stream. You can't be in 2 places at once. Take it seriously, and have fun.

Beautiful place! Fiddle creek connects to the North yuba river. There's a fiddle creek trail up the road a bit, slightly steep but neat! We caught and released Californian newts in the creek they were a reddish color so cute but be careful, they can release poison toxin from their skin. My kids also caught many snakes, I think they were water snakes but I'm not sure. We didn't see fangs on them and they were pretty easy to handle. Mosquitos will get you so be prepared. Well anyways, here are some pictures from our 4 day/3 night trip.

One of the best hiking spots I've been too. You are right on the side of a mountain! We had gone on a Tuesday and there was hardly anyone there, such a hidden gem.

Visited both units. The covered bridge was beautiful. Pulled 3 ticks off the dog & 1 off a human.

And some trails dogs can be off leash if your dog responde to a voice command. Look for the dog sing. HAPPY TRAIL!!!
If you go down river, towards engelbright there are some boat sites, but there aren't any campsites in the State Park.
You can not make a fire, or carry glass bottles, it is better to arrive very early, like at 7 am and be able to leave early after having enjoyed a good time.
There are several overflow parking areas, although somewhat a little far away. If you go early enough, you should be fine especially on a Monday.
Yes. With fantastic views of the river from above. There will be trails that allow you down to the river. Make sure you have water shoes as most of shore is pretty rocky.
No dedicated trails that I know of, but I think the area is very suitable for horse riding.
The Yuba river does have swimming holes that you can jump into off of rocks but...... you must make sure it's deep enough and no boulders under water that you may hit. You may have gone to the American river before when you jumped off rocks. It does have a lot of deeper swimming holes with rocks to jump from. You can access the North Fork of the American River at Twin Bridges on Highway 49 headed towards Coloma, park at the bottom of the canyon at the bridge Upstream of the highway 49 Crossing. That would be the Old Forest Hill Road and Hike Upstream and you'll find wonderful swimming holes and you can jump from rocks there. Whichever spot you choose please be cautious as this activity is potentially very dangerous as I'm sure you are aware.
Google "Red Tricycle Pint size panning" and check out all the old Gold Rush towns that offer activities for kids along old Hwy 49. You will be amazed at the number of things to choose from. If you're coming up from the bay or the valley you can head to Tahoe via old Hwy 49. Beautiful scenery and fun for the whole family.
Not at the River itself, but go over the bridge and up and then down the dirt road about 1.5miles theres a campground there, tents or rvs /trailers no hookups but shared water faucets and trash. When I was there in October no fires were allowed not wire if thqta still in effect. Lots of trails there and i did see dogs and horses.
Willow creek campground is just a few miles away. They have a variety of cabins to rent.
Yes, the state park is open. Some beaches below the historic covered bridge are closed due to construction on the bridge but plenty of open spots upstream and down. Pleasant Valley Rd is open in both directions. Many of the roadside parking spots are now blocked off with "No Parking" signs, so be prepared to pay at the lot on the west side of the bridge.

It's open.
It was cold enough to cool us off when we were there a couple of weeks ago. Get there early because it gets crowded quick. Before 8am is the best time.
I don't recommend swimming in any river, due to the under currents. If you are looking for a good swimming hole i take my kids up to Smartsville rd. There's a rope swing that my 8 year old daughter just loves. If you need a more local spot then Star Bend out in Olivehurst down feather river Blvd.
Not that I seen. There are restrooms but they are like the camp sight restrooms
It's like a 2 block away..
It depends on the time of year you go. By mid summer the water is warm and full of algae due to the number of humans and lower water levels from the lake upstream.
Not there none of that is allowed
Yes throughout. You can not camp at the parking and day use areas but adjacent to them is open. The areas like hwy 49 and south fork trails no bridgeport. No but if you go to the edges its fine.
They are closed.
I was there last week and it was self pay $5
There is camping all along the mout of the yuba and feather rivers. The only con is that there are a lot of metal health plagued homeless people in the area making camping peacefully, difficult.
Parking pass costs $4 for seniors and $5 regular.
Was it a cop/ranger?
It is not a difficult trail but there will be rain that weekend and trail will be slick. Trek poles will help, and take it slow.
I'm not sure which lake Diana is asking about. The river has warmed up and slowed down but is still refreshing and beautiful.
hike upstream! and I'll have to tell you these "clothing optional people" are not just gathered in one spot. I had to leave because grown men were basically showing themselves to little girls and one even got a couple feet from me and my two year old daughter and put his leg on a rock and was just chillin with his junk out. I know 8ll never go there again
Yes but go down river closer to englebright Lake for better luck especially when crowded
