Cute little Campground nestled well deep into the Greenwood Forest of auburn. However it's closed. No camping. Day use only. And the parking spots to get to camping spots to use for day use are rocked off. So be careful how you park. The water is crystal clear and other than it being closed this could be my new favorite Campground close to home anyway. Not sure why it's closed we have to contact the County. Mind your steps while walking through the rocks. I fell and ended up in the emergency room with a broken wrist.

Peaceful area. Lots of places to get away from the public. There are nice areas to swim and jump off the rocks too. Or if you want to sunbathe on the rocks there are great places for that as well.

Lots of garbage and trash at campsites and dumpsters. We picked up more trash to beautify our site for the next campers as it seems they may not clean up between campers. Best sites 22, 23 for shade. Nice beach .5 away on same road. Pit toilets are clean though.

Went for a run here it was pretty deserted. Very pretty area, the path was rough but lovely.

Campsites do not have water or electrical hookups. There is no water in the campground, campers must bring their own. Campground only accepts reservations for the 23 sites. No walkup or drive ins available. Sites are reservable online only. Campsites will not accommodate a 5th wheel. Some sites might fit a small motor home or camper trailer, but not all. Sites have room for one truck or maybe 2 smaller cars. There is parking in other areas for extra vehicles though.
I don't know the elevation, but you can search that on Google Earth. The campsites are only a steps to the river.
Is there any opening for camp sites
Yes but the river isnt what it use to be since lake Rollins dam was put up just above Colfax. Now u have green moss growing on the river rocks, that once were clear.
Yes you can reserve. You do it on the county website.
While they do have fire pits, each campsite is required to have ONE person who has a burn permit through CDF. Not only for firepits, but also for BBQ grills. And there are certain times of the the year that ALL fire burns are completely shut down. When you register at CDF you will be provided a phone number to call and check whether a particular day is a burn day or not. These permits are State Law and are required at ALL campgrounds in California. Don't be caught using a fire without one.
Ues, the road in is windy, narrow and steep in some places. Our travel trailer is 28 ft long and i wouldn't try to get it down there. Maybe something much shorter would be easier.
Our families have been camping there for many years and we've never had any problems.
Foot prints and poop.
There is no "running water" there...except for the river itself...
Always be aware of mountain lions rare but around as well as bears
I've grown up camping here every summer. Sometimes there are, sometimes not. In my experience when there is, they've always been respectful and keep to themselves. Never had any issues. And a park ranger patrols through often throughout the day.
No, but they do not allow any motorized equipment. Good place to go and have fun.
Not sure what time, but for the fire permit its free and takes less than five minutes online and is good for a year. http://www.preventwildfireca.org/Campfire-Permit/
I saw people fishing down by the day area on sand/gravel bars were the river does not run so fast. It is just up the road from the camping areas.
You have to check county website to see what's available
I would send an email thats how i was able to reach them.
Note there is no kiosk or camp host... The rangers drive through in the morning and evenings...
Try the county parks....Parks Division Phone: 530-886-4901 But it does say CDF on their website
I doubt it, the reservation cost is only $10 per night
It is open for camping thru October
The campground can be foumd online at Bear River Park and campground. County of Placer. I beleive you can make reservatioms there
There isn't a hike. U park your Vehicle at your campsite.
