The waters were very murky. The visibility was limited in the swimming area. Able to see cannons in the water while snorkeling cannon beach. The other beach was very unattractive. Best snorkeling in between the 2 beaches. The camping was pleasant. The camp host started in the location next to ours, and the couple was very nice and helpful. They cleaned the restrooms, and did a very good job as the restrooms were well kept. The negative to the park was no available snorkel trips, and signing up, but getting cancelled the morning if the trip. Hard to plan that way for your trip.
The Far Beach is now open and the dive shop is scheduled to open next week. They have done an amazing job of restoring the park and I don't hesitate to recommend visiting!
Yes to reservations for snorkeling and bottom boat tours. No need to rsvp for kayaks and paddleboards although it doesnt hurt. We were just there on Wednesday, and it was very busy. There were long lines just to get into the park so go early if you're able.
Glassboat tours are $24 per adult, $17 for a kid 4-11 years of age, and free 3 years and younger. Times are 9:15am, 12:15pm, and 3:15pm. They go for 2.5 hours and all the information can be found on the website at http://pennekamppark.com/
I would Google it for the number, with all the Canadians that come down to the U.S. for the Winter, I would make a reservation early to make sure you can get in.
Goodmorning, I've sent 3 emails to cancel a reservation but still have no answer.
Good morning, I have already sent 3 emails to cancel my reservation, but I am not getting a response.

Hi Femke, to cancel a reservation you will need to call the park for more help.
Many kayaks to choose from and nice canals to tour if oceanside is to windy..chk. out pennakamp.com for all info u might b looking 4. Ps. Take snorkling gear or rent there.
I booked a 4.5 snorkeling tour on April 1st and I was wondering if we have to reserve swim gear in advance for our tour. Or do we not have to worry about that if we already paid for the tour? We don't want to show up and all the gear's being used :)

they usually have plenty of gear. however I highly recommend bringing your own if you have any
No pool. The, "beaches" are barely beaches. They are more like Rocky patches with a little bit of sand. And they are very small. If you are looking for a beach vacation, I would go a little further down the road to Bahia Honda state park.
How many feet deep after the dropoff (where you can't see the bottom) is in the Cannon beach is the maximum ?

18 feet.
I have a 33 ft boat that I would like to stay on overnight in the park for 4-5 days. Do you rent slips for several days and can we stay overnight in our boat in the slip while there?
Been planning on snorkeling in the mangroves where people kayak and paddle board! But out around Christ of the abyss is on of my favorites, you will need a boat. Dive boats aren't expensive I'm told. Sage snorkeling!
Single occupant Vehicle - $4.50
Double occupant Vehicle - $8 plus $.50 cents per person up to 8 people
Pedestrian or bicyclist - $2.50 per person
Over eight (8) people in one vehicle - $2.50 per each additional person (over the 8)
All the prices are on their website. Totally worth it.
I bought a now favorite shirt in the gift shop there a few years ago. Does the gift shop have a website? Can I buy another online somehow? Or by email with a gift shop clerk?

I don't know if they also run the concession stand, but the concession company that work the activities might be able to help you. Here's the web address. http://pennekamppark.com/
Is the park open this weekend July 3 and 4?

I would call. However they did say on Tuesday the park would be closed Friday Saturday & Sunday. Not sure if that has changed since. FYI the water was about 83 degrees and had a very bad smell on Tuesday.
Hi Sandra! No, there are no tent or cabin rentals at John P.
There is a company called "Camping Florida Keys" that does rentals, but I have never dealt with them personally.
Who is the statue of i used to dive there in the early 1980s it was the best place on earth i just dont remember who the statue was i thought Poseidon but maybe jesus
No, I don't think so, but there could be designated areas for that.
Can you tent camp there or is it just for rv's

I don't know, sorry, but what I can tell you is that KeyLargo is not such a nice place, any downtown, only boats and the snorkeling we did was disappointing. This is my experience.
Dogs are allowed in this park, but not usually on beaches, so I'd clarify by calling them directly. Also, floatation devices are made for dogs and are very helpful for water activities. If the dog gets out of the kayak, then the device has a handle to lift them back in quickly.
They have campsites but no rooms. I do know somebody in Key Largo that rents a trailer out on a weekly basis very close to John penny cap State Park very nice trailer with jacuzzi hot tub
I was recently snorkeling at John Pennekamp and I think I may have left my black jacket vest with an angel pin in the bathrooms. I was there Thursday, February 14th. Could you please let me know if you have this jacket/vest?

We never used the public bathrooms as we were camping there. Did you try asking the Concierge center?
Are there running trails in this park? Does anyone know how many miles a runner can go on the trails if there are trails?

There are some trails suitable for running but I doubt that any one of them are a mile long. I would suggest you go up to there Botanical Garden on Card Sound Road. It has plenty of running trails.
I would like to know if there are any bird watching trails

Do they have a dedicated camping site just for people on bicycles? Bahia Honda did and it was reserved for people on bikes everyday until 3pm. I was told by the lady at Bahia Honda it's Florida wide....

Check with the park for walk up campsite availability when you arrive.
What time does the office close? If you wanted to camp but arrive too late to check in what's the process?

If you have a reservation and are expected to arrive after sunset, you must call the park before 5pm local time for the gate combination.
I saw a three year old with our group a few weeks ago. Children must be with an adult. I brought my seven year old, and it was just to much from him, and I'll really thought he would be just fine. Luckily I still was able to Snorkel while one of our Captains (Bryan; amazing guy) sat with him.
Can we take animals in the park? On the boats?
Pets are not allowed on beaches, on tour or rental boats, or in any buildings and may be restricted in other designated areas. Where pets are allowed, they must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash and be well-behaved at all times. Guide dogs for the deaf and blind are welcome in all areas of the park.
Absolutely! The best place to launch is to the far right. Turn left at the campground (on the right). Pavilion and tables with a good space to launch kayaks.
As with any wildlife encounter, it is best to observe them in their natural state. When we attended the waters were fairly rough and there was a large number of Man O War Jellyfish. So, we enjoyed the glassbottom boat tour. Plenty of fish to see. We also saw sea turtle and dolphin.
I found this on their web page - "Pets are not allowed on beaches, on tour or rental boats, or in any buildings and may be restricted in other designated areas. Where pets are allowed, they must be kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash and be well-behaved at all times. Guide dogs for the deaf and blind are welcome in all areas of the park."
I was just on the tour last week the glass bottom boat tour last for close to 3 hours so if your little baby can handle that then sure why not. Also the upper deck has little to no shade at all.
Snorkeling boats, glass bottom boat, visitor centwr/aquarium, and dive boats are all fully operational. Food Concession and gift shop are scheduled to open in the rebuilt building next week. (as of 2/27/18)
Yes check out the Park itself, they Should have H/C facilities..however most of the small dive shops will accommodate. Also Their is Dophins Plus or Cove...sorry not sure of exact name on oceanside near Key Largo Fisheries that works solely with impaired indivuals..it is a non profit. Good Luck

The day-use part of the Park is open they hope to open the camping November 1st but no guarantees yet. Concessions should be opening in temporary trailer November 1st
