My friend and I took a 2 Hour Drive from Raleigh to the beach over the weekend on our motorcycles! The parking is not the easiest at this beach it is the less exclusive. Beautiful hiking trails and the fort fisher museum and aquarium is right around the corner. At this beach you are allowed to have your dogs on a leash year-round. Also note there are a lot of rocks around the area bring good shoes.

This is an amazing State Park and recreation area. Nice facilities and a beach with a lifeguard. Safe and clean. They even have a small exhibit room to learn about the environment of the park. I love this place!

Wonderful beach with nice facilities and attentive life guard. Warning: there is a monument to the confederacy nearby, I try to avoid that section.

End of September
No indoor shower but awesome clean bathrooms. There is a faucet out on the walk way to the beach
I know this is old but thought I'd correct it anyways. There IS camping on the 4x4 beach access between September 15 and March 31. That is when the 4x4 beach has 24hr access. Hope this helped.
It is 30 miles off the coast of southport. If you were to take the ferry from Fort Fisher to Southport that takes about 35 minutes. Google maps would not map it for me to get u an exact answer but I hope this helps. Have fun!!
No camping or over night parking.... you have to go to the north end to camp or Park
There is a fee. I'm not sure what the daily fee is ($20.00?). However, if you buy the yearly, it's $50.00, I believe. We were there for 3 days so that was what we did.
Yes. It is a state park and free to the public. It has picnic tables and public restrooms. Plus one walking trail.
According to their website they only have PRIMITIVE TENT CAMPING – No electricity available. A scenic outdoor camping site that overlooks the Cape Fear River. It stays relatively cool because of the breeze coming from either the river or the ocean. The camping area includes a common bath house, and a coin-operated washer and dryer. This shaded grassy camping area is located near the Beach House Bar and Grill. $10.00 per night / per site – Two 4 person tents or one 8 person tent are the maximum allowed per site. Camping equipment and supplies are available at the Recreation Hall or the Reception Center. Check-in at 2 p.m. – check-out by 2 p.m.
There is not a campground at Fort Fisher, however Carolina Beach State Park is very close.
