The campground has a hiking trail 1.8 miles that leads to the beach. The beach was clean with a large sandy area. It is an older campground with huge shade trees. The lots are a decent size. I stayed at site 15 and that loop had bushes on the sides which provided privacy and gives you a deep woods feeling. The bathrooms are older but were kept clean my only complaint is that it only has one short hiking trail, but that's to be expected with a smaller park. We had a wonderful time here.

Very nice beach! I've only been to this state park a few times but have yet to be disappointed. It is very clean and well maintained. The water always just seems to be so refreshing too. I would like to check out the campground the next time I go. One thing that I would consider when visiting is not to go during rush hour. The main roads near this park have high traffic congestion. Overall, this state park is a nice little upbeat place that is very clean.

Beautiful hiking trails. We combined the (totally empty) hiking, biking and equestrian trails, but got lost a little on the latter. We could easily back up onto another trail though, so that wasn’t really a problem :) I quite missed a scenic overview on the trails, we got to a higher level, but the trees unfortunately blocked the views of the lake. The trails must be wonderful in spring and summer (and offering a lot of natural shade as well). We will definitely come back here when it is warmer and then also bring our bathing suits and some BBQ!!!

Cool campsites! I like the ones in the woods for more seclusion. There are a lot of RVs and tow behind campers here but not a lot of campgrounds have tent-only areas, sadly. …

$20 a night & there are 25 equestrian camp sites! BYOH!
The yearly Recreation Pass is $11. Camping rates vary by site but you can only camp for 2 weeks at a time before you have to move on to a totally different campground. There are no monthly rates for camping.
We shot 2 Saturday's ago
I cant speak on everyone's luck or their experiences but Myself and The Kids have fun out there!!
Yes the area is open to hunting and trapping sign all around that way that
The beach is quite a walk from the campground so unless your dog is very well behaved you might not want to. There is a large area of the park that dogs are allowed just not on the sand beach part.
Yes, there are paved pathways but not on the beach. You'd have to go over the grass to get there.
Its 20 bucks for the pass and no huts they do have pavilion tables and grills and party not sure.. Haven't tried lol
I would ask them directly but Id probably assume yes as long as it's not during quiet hours! We usually bring out a speaker and play music along the same lines, live would just enhance it!
There is a dock at the boat launch, also two docks located in the common/picnic areas.
Yes you can hunt here. It's a State Game area.
Yes. Close to airport. Depending on wind direction you have small planes flying low overhead. Some private jets but mostly just small planes.
I have not seen one pavilion with electric outlets
The sites are all beautiful, secluded from each other with tree and brush cover. This is one of the few campgrounds that didn't get hot bad with those bugs that were eating and infecting so many trees....
Ohhh I'm sorry about that, Yeah pontiac lake was closed because of the high levels few weeks back when I tried to go and so we ended up having to go to cass😕
Yes
Yes however there was a power failure last weekend caused the restrooms to close but they did have porta-jons delivered quickly until power was restored
I'm not sure when the gates open. When we went, no one was in the guard shack for check in We just drove in
I am not sure. You will have to call and ask. I want to say yes though. I could be wrong.
They are not supposed to be closed, however I do believe the shooting range would be at that time on sunday.
I am sure there's a kayak rental but not sure about boat. I know that at M59 (Highland road) and Pontiac Lake rd there's a place near the Liquor Store there's a place that might rent boats there.
You can reserve facilities here https://midnrreservations.com/
I know during the fall you can. Not sure if this is one of the state parks that stays open all winter.
156, East Loop.
They are allowed in the park on the 6ft leash, but not on the beach. Everywhere else they are good to go
I have actually been at Pontiac lake rec a few months back and we had a power outage and there was nothing you can do. The park called DTE and let them know but it's just like anywhere else you have to wait till it comes back on
If you mean a typical thunderstorm we just hangout in our tent. Tornados I have no idea I haven't seen anything maybe the bathroom or shower rooms would be the safest places.
I believe its $15 or $20 a day
I belive you can stay for a week at a time. Its kinda a shell game. You pay for a week. Move to another space then pay again. So on and so forth. I believe that's how they do it. Some people rotaye between Highland rec and Pontiac Lake. They have full hook ups at both.
Yes...and you can. But they close the entrance gate when the first snow falls. So you will have to park outside the gate and walk in. Or they have a couple pull off areas on gale rd where you can park too. If your looking for squirrels, park at the main gate...and there's a hugh patch of hard woods on the left of the gate there by the power lines.
Not sure. Check the DNR web site for valid current info.
Yes they opened all year long Open for fishing and hunting and yes they have electric at all campsites
Yes it is
Your pass on your licence plate or probably 10 for a day pass or might be less
Thay don't do day pass no more
Normally not till 3 depends on if sight is open
I believe the limit on camping duration is two weeks. Try asking the camp office or find a private or county camp ground
You can still get day passes at the office, however, it's less expensive to get the yearly.
Depends on what yr camping with tent,rv,camper also size thats how they price.
You have to have a Michigan State Park sticker ( i believe there around 12.00). You can buy one at the entrance. I don't believe they sell daily passes. But you could check the state park web site.
$22 per night
It's a state park, so if you added that at your license plate renewal (and why wouldn't you, it supports our states parks 😉) only $11 per year. You can also get an annual pass for all state parks at the gate for $16.
Michigan State Parks do not offer any types of discounts for vets, retirees, or the disabled. Everyone pays the same rate for any particular campsite.
You should still he able to exit the park. I think the gate is only over the entrance side. I'll have to check next time I drive past there.
Only in desginated areas of the campground.
They have rustic and modern sites, which do have electricity.
Two tents & two vehicles per site. Just came back from four days of camping...great campground, great staff.
Every vehicle needs a "Recreation Passport" to enter any Michigan state park, even for just a short visit. Ideally, get it when you renew your tags. Otherwise, for instate residents, it will cost you $16 or $18 at the park. That will give you entry until you tags expire. The state parks give no discounts for entry or camping for any reason.
I would call the main office to get a guaranteed answer... I didn't see any signs saying that it was prohibited.
From what I have seen, its mostly families. The place is almost full every weekend. But quiet and peaceful at the same time.
Yes I actually went swimming there yesterday. Water is still really cold but it's open.
3 pm
I dont know if they have limitations but id guess it would have to do with the available space on your site. Most sites can handle at the very least two 8 man tents with a with a picinic table and the fire pit. All sites are different shapes and sizes.
Off William's lake road. Great state park
For sure...no bone fire.
I know for parties in the structures you to reserve them ahead of time and I'm pretty sure there's a fee. As far as setting up a tent I wouldn't know details but I'm pretty sure you could. You would just need to contact them to find out about any limitations or fees. There is no alcohol allowed because it is a state park.
People do ride them on the lake. But i doubt you can in the park, check with the DNR.
There is rustic camping available in the very first parking to the left as you first enter the park. At the back of the park is RV camping. Great place to camp. Further back is the equestrian area. Lots of nice trails. At least 8 miles of winding trails for bikes, hiking, and horses.
October 28th is the latest for 2017. The 2018 season runs April 20th - November 3rd.
My husband and I have been out twice shore fishing at Pontiac Lake. The first time we stuck to the pier on the left and caught a lot of small gills and one good size largemouth. The second time we went out the pier to the left was too crowded, so we fished from shore and the pier on the right. That time we caught nothing but a really tiny perch. We'll go again, regardless, but we'll stick to the left pier.
Holly Rec said they close at the end of October so Pontiac Lake is probably the same since they are both State parks
