I took my sister in law to Dr Cruz for pain management. The only thing this doctor does is give injections. My sister in law has chronic pain from arthritis and fibromyalgia. Dr. Cruz does not prescribe pain medicine. Shots will not do any good.

My father was referred to this practice for back pain. When we arrived for the scheduled SI cortisone injection, we had some questions about the procedure. When we quietly and calmly began to ask the questions to confirm we understood what would be happening, we were rudely told that they didn’t have time for questions and the my elderly father, suffering from pain, should have read the paper and “did he read the paper he was given?”they gave us the paper with the details of the procedure and we told them ok, let’s go forward with the injection. Once my father was prepped and the Dr came into the room, he quietly asked her what to expect, she told him that she was too busy for questions and that he should have asked any questions 2 weeks ago when he first had a consultation. She then told him to get up and leave that she had no time to explain anything. They kept the $25 copayment and told him that he’d have to make and pay for another appointment in order to have the Dr. answer any questions. I am flabbergasted at the attitude and treatment. This is a “pain clinic.” Meaning they treat people for pain, who inherently have issues sleeping, which can add to confusion, not great memory/information retention, and thus may need a little more kindness and attention when explaining procedures. Never in my life have I had a Dr office be so incredibly unwilling to take even 2 minutes to speak to a patient about what was going to be done to them. I cannot recommend you stay far away from this practice enough.

Today, Tuesday, 10/29/19, I had a 9:30 appointment only to be seen at 10:15. Dr. Cruz walks in complaining of allergies and proceeded to sniffle throughout the 3 minute evaluation. It was obvious by her questions that she did not remember me from May. I made this appointment because I needed a 2nd cortisone injection. In May I had been referred to Dr. Cruz for pain management due to a terrible car accident. At that time, I had my 1st cortisone injection. She told me to call and make an appointment if I needed a repeat injection in the coming months. Five months later, I did just that. During the evaluation today, she asked me what my pain level was on a scale of 1 - 10, I told her a 9. She said okay you need the trigger point injections again, I will see you next Monday. Today is Tuesday!! I said wait, what? I have to wait an entire week for a cortisone injection when I specifically made the appointment for a follow up injection? She walks out and proceeds to go into the next room to see another patient. I sat there stunned. Her office manager walks in and starts telling me that the receptionist only makes the appointments that they are not doctors and cannot evaluate a patient and would not know whether I needed an injection or not, that the doctor does the evaluation and makes that decision. I am so confused. This is a pain management doctor? Does she think I am stupid? My own daughter is a Doctor ~ I understand the protocol, but this is absurd. I am in pain! Doesn’t she care that I am in pain? Does she not care about her patients? Wow! The office manager then said they do these shots on certain days. I looked at her again stunned because when I called, why would they not book me on a day they do the injections? Seriously!??? I took time off from work, to be seen 45 minutes late, to get a 3 minute evaluation only to be told to come back next week? Why? So you can charge another fee? When I made the appointment, I knew I needed a cortisone injection due to a previous car accident. Her office staff should look at a patients chart when the appointment is made so they are prepared and know your history to allot for this. I have never heard of a Doctor’s office not making the extra allowance at the time the appointment is made. It would have taken 5 minutes if they were prepared. To have a patient leave in pain and be told to come back a week later for the injection is unfathomable to me. I am not a FIRST TIME PATIENT. One other thing, her office manager made an excuse for Dr. Cruz stating that she is not feeling well today. If that is the case, stay the hell home! Obviously, she doesn't care about her patients. Just unexceptionable! It is obvious that she doesn't know the first thing about running a practice. It's a numbers game for her. If you want the same kind of “care”, do not go here!

I don't know if they do but if her practice is in your network make an appointment ASAP. You can't go wrong. She and Dr. Simmons are top notch. She has treated my PCP and Dr. Simmons treated my herniated disc - I am pain-free after suffering for nearly six months.
