They are very helpful and I had a great experience. Sometimes they don't answer the phone but don't panic, they deal with a lot of vets and they want to help you. If your claim doesn't go the way it should and the VA tries to short you (they always do) DAV will help you try again to get the compensation you deserve.

Me and my husband have tried to call our local offices (two different ones -Sacramento and Oakland ) a dozen times. There is never an answer and they don't have a voicemail. I even tried to submit a request/ contact the national office online and never got a reply. I don't understand how they are able to help anyone when they can even answer a phone ever. I'm not sure where to go from here with our claims and feel like there's no one to help. Update: after leaving a complaint on Facebook someone contacted me. I was able to work with DAV and they were wonderful and so knowledgeable. Once you get their actually email address it’s much easier to contact them. So I’m updating my rating from 1 star to 4. I think they still need to work on answering their phones because that was ridiculous.

Don't waste your time. I called to get assistance with my claims, the lady who answered sounded bothered by my call and was rude, then said " You already have a representative why don't you call them". I can only imagine how many veterans she has turned away.

Get yourself a very good Attorney
This office does not have anything to do with donations. I believe this website will be able to answer your question: http://donatedav.org/donate/
The V.A is looking out for itself and not the veterans. I'd think about finding a good lawyer.
