I absolutely cannot recommend this place enough. Donna has a very unique teaching style that is not for everyone, which I’m sure is where the negative reviews come from. My daughter did Donna’s parks and rec class at 5 years old and then again at 6, followed by a full summer of volunteering, although she is quite a bit younger than the “normal” volunteers she has the maturity and pure passion to make up for it and had an amazing experience. The first thing all the kids are taught at Longacre is safety, regardless of age they’re taught that the horses are bigger stronger and if not handle properly can lead to injury. I spent almost everyday this summer at the barn with the volunteers and was amazed by how extensive the education they got was, she didn’t just teach them about horses, horsemanship and riding but also all the responsibilities that go into horse and barn ownership (definitely not for the faint of heart!). They would clean stalls, feed and water, groom, pick paddocks, clean tack, lunge, lead, ride and cool down. They even did car wash practice for the nexts days car wash fundraiser! The teens she had leading the volunteer program are a huge reason I believe in her methods, they’re some of the most respectful and responsible kids I’ve ever met, and as I’ve gotten to know her other students over the last 9 months it’s the same for all of them. They’re also incredibly knowledgeable and taught us all a wealth of information. My daughter is continuing to volunteer and ride at at Longacre and I can’t thank Donna and her barn family enough for taking her in and teaching her. We look forward to the many horse crazed years to come! I recommend Longacre to everyone, lessons are awesome but if you’re serious about committing to horse ownership someday (especially with kids) the summer volunteering is a jump start into the responsibility of horse ownership without the commitment.

This place has been a god send for my children. My kids have had the absolute honor of working with Donna. This woman knows horses like the back of her hand. She has allowed my kid to work on her property in trade for lessons and experience. Donna has absolutely been one of true best influences in my kids life’s. I am writing this review today in response to someone giving her a bad review. A fellow reviewer has some undisciplined children and so took it as an opportunity to bad mouth an amazing woman’s business. Donna is strict in the best possible way. If you want to see your kids mature and become great members of society, she is a woman who at least for my 6 year old, has given her a strong work ethic. She may work your kids hard, but it’s honest work that needs to be done and is fair. If you come to a place asking to trade work for lessons you should expect to work for lessons. I am not a man that is good with words, but I want the public to know that the parent that wrote the terrible review, is one of those parents who should of spent more time getting to know the actual situation. My six year old works her little butt off on that property, but she loves every minute of it. She knows it’s all for her true passion, the love of horses.

My daughter's wanted to volunteer at these horse stables to learn about horses which is something they offer so I thought it was a good idea, however after about a week I spoke to my girls and the things I was hearing they were doing didn't really make sense as far as the type of work they were doing, nothing really seemed like it was even associated with horses which is actually the reason for volunteering, we didn't want anything in return except for knowledge and my girls were only being used for free child labor with no pay including washing her truck 2 times in one day because apparently my "lazy" daughter, as Donna called her, didn't do a good enough job the first time. We will never take our kids here again and I recommend you don't either, we never even got a chance to purchase lessons from this place because I wanted my kids to learn first but it this is how she treats her "volunteers" (slaves) then I don't care how good of a teacher she is, anyone who takes advantage of a child's yearning to learn shouldn't be in business at all. Isn't there a law against what she's doing to these poor kids! I mean not only are they doing her chores but most of the time there is 0 adult supervision, my kids are not super young but my daughter told me there is a 6 year old there and with children being near a large animal like a horse, adult supervision is a must and the least she can do for getting free labor like an Asian sweat shop. Rant over, don't go here, I think I need to go find a way to report this place to labor and industries
