I applied to renew a lapsed license in May. It is now going on the end of August and still has not been processed. All I am told is it has been escalated to the board and they will not allow me to speak with anyone from the board. This is putting a huge strain on my career which they seem to care nothing about. This is the most unprofessional organization I have ever associated with.

I’ve called multiple times for a week trying to get in touch with someone, but no response. Even left a voicemail to give me a call back at their convenience. I finally spoke with Christine and she was so rude and nasty for no reason. I am grown and this woman was talking to me like I’m her child. If she picks up the phone, do yourself a favor and hang up.
This is ridiculous! I'm late renewing my LPN license, because no one will answer a phone, and their webpage is so complicated you want to tear your hair out! No wonder they were rated one of the worst nursing boards in the country.
Most or all meds come in a pharmacy filled container that describes color, shape, if there's a number or sign on a pill. When families or residents bring those kind of meds, I look for description, or call pharmacy. There are apps out there that allow you to take pic of drug and it's identified by the number on them.

You can test in any state as long as you designate your results be sent to Ohio and have applied for licensure by examination in Ohio, otherwise you will need to test first, pass, and then apply for licensure via endorsement. (RN)

Is it ok for an resident assistant with no type of license to count pills with a nurse ?
Amerika Wilson. | Sep 17, 2018
Amber Reyes | Sep 17, 2019
If its missed counted that will fall on the nurses license. This should be no and also you need to look at the facility policies and guidelines for the RA. You both could get fired for this not just one. If I was the RA I would count them for the nurse and tell the nurse you are not able to do that task. If I was the nurse I would never ask an unlicensed person to verify my meds.

Can an LPN nurse be forced by employer to be responsible for 2 separate units in completely separate areas of facility due to understaffing and managers are unwilling to come in on their off da?
Act as supervisor without promotion or compensation?
Katherine Burl | Oct 21, 2021
Katherine Burl | Oct 21, 2021
Thank you so much! At my facility…the nurses, which are mostly LPN’s are forced to act as the supervisor for the entire facility even so, we have not been promoted to that position nor do they offer any incentive/compensation. Also as I shared, we are forced to take 2 units, which are completely in separate areas because the on-call managers does not want to give up their day off. Last question….can they terminate me if I refuse to accept 2 units/2 different areas or act as supervisor?

At this time Ohio will just offer you a temporary license because during COVID-19, the exam centers are closed. You don't have to take the test
If your Ohio PN license has expired, you will have to take extra CEUs to apply for your license renewal. If you have kept up your CEUs and license, just renew like normal.

Todd - I am in the same situation. Live in IN have IN RN active license. I did have my OH license but quit working in OH and want to reactivate it. The BON portal is confusing and sending me in circles. I understand the physical BON in OH is closed but you would think there would be someone available to help answer questions. It's a shame! Try calling IN BON and see if they can advise.

Earth Goddess LaLa | Sep 16, 2020
MaryAnna Brown | Sep 16, 2020
Yes you would be required 2 take 24 credit hours to reinstate your license in the state of Ohio 2 hours would have to be in the laws Ohio and they may make you take Pharmacy and some others if your license has lapsed and they may require a background check as well I would call the Board of Nursing or go down to the Board of Nursing on High Street 17 South High Street it is worse a trip to know exactly what you need that's the only way I have tried and tried other ways and they are so busy they don't answer your emails our phone calls the best way is to go down and to speak with someone take down the information you already own as far as CEUs are credits and then ask him what you need to complete for the state of Ohio is the best way to keep from having delays and getting your license reinstated good luck best wishes MaryAnna Brown RN, BSN

Jenna Neuman | Sep 17, 2019
Bari Trammell | Sep 17, 2019
Gaining employment at a nursing home is one way to maintain 7.5 work credit hours for STNA. Some assistant living facilities does not require you to have a STNA license and be mindful of those types of facilities. They may not qualify for credit hours maintaining your STNA license. I hope that this was helpful.

I believe you can only give IV medications thru peripheral lines. PICC lines are considered central lines. You can check on this by looking up the Ohio Board of Nursing and what LPN's can do IV wise.
