Is an advising session necessary?

Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022
Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022

This is highly individual. We believe the book “Your Next Season” provides everything to empower athletes to make the best decisions for their future. However, we know it can be extremely helpful to get guidance in specific areas from someone who has been in their shoes and is now on the other side of the decisions they made in high school. For this reason, we offer one-on-one advising sessions.

What will I learn during an advising session?

Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022

The purpose of an advising session is to help the athlete with specific areas they need help with after reading “Your Next Season.” This can be help with picking a career or major, helping determine what division level to try to play at, or just help choosing a school after the athlete has narrowed down schools by using the Endgame Formula.

What about kids who do not want to go to college?

At Next Season Advising, we believe you do not need a college degree to be successful. There are tons of well paying careers in the United States that do not require a college degree. In fact, we highly recommend kids take a hard look at some of these career fields, as they pay just as much (if not more) than some of the “flashy” career fields.

I can’t even get my high school athlete to think five minutes ahead. How do you get them to think 30 years ahead?

While it can be hard for kids to think about what career they may want or other life goals, we believe the conversation can be started by simply asking what is one thing they want in life. A kid may want a big house, a fancy car, a big family, or the ability to travel. By starting with something fun to think about, we can then shift the conversation to other life goals, such as career path and, ultimately, what college will help them get to their goals the quickest.

How early should kids begin thinking about their long term future?

Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022
Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022

As early as possible! This can be highly individual. However, the absolute latest any athlete should be considering their long term goals is the summer between their freshman and sophomore years of high school.

My child is not an athlete. Can Next Season Advising still help?

Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022
Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022

Absolutely! While our focus is on athletes, most of our factors to consider apply to all high school students. Our process stays the same, we just take out the sports aspects of our process for those who do not play sports.

Is Next Season Advising a recruiting service?

Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022
Next Season Advising | Feb 16, 2022

No! We do not help athletes get recruited. Instead, we teach athletes and their parents what they should consider before focusing time, money, and energy on getting recruited.
