Hi Maria, we are very sad that you and your children are going through this trauma. Our organization does not provide services to victims of domestic violence, but we have a network of organizations throughout the state of California that provide free, confidential and Spanish-language services. Many of these organizations attend 24 hours a day through a crisis line where they can talk with you about your situation and help you with a security plan or other kind of support you need. To find the closest organization, visit our website and click on the "Get Help" button (or ask for help). You will be sent to a page with a map where you can search using your zip code or city. You can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 24 hours a day in Spanish, where you can be referred to an organization near where you are. The other option is to call our office during business hours 8:30 am - 5 pm.

I have a friend who just recently came to the U.S, her husband is controlling and uses her green card against her. She has confided in me that he abuses her mentally and uses her existence to fulfill his needs, she has asked me for help indirectly

Thank you for your question, Jocelyn. You are a good friend for reaching out to help someone you care about who is experiencing domestic violence. Please know that you can always visit our website and click "Get Help" in the upper right-hand corner of any page. This will lead you to our searchable map of organizations, many of which support survivors 24/7 and also provide guidance for friends and family members. Feel free to call the hotline of the closest organization, and also share it with your friend. The following resources are also listed at the top of this map page: The National Domestic Violence Hotline is always available 24/--and they can provide a local referral. Our office is open between business hours on weekdays from 8:30-5 p.m., so we can be reached for support and referrals as well.
