Ok good question... some sites are bigger then others. They even have sites that are adjacent to other sites that you might be able to combine if if not being occupied of course. Generally speaking the site that i was at could fit about 20 - 25 comfortably. You can even request another pic knick table if needed. There is so much you can do i doubt everyone would be there at once anyway. Hope this helped, have fun.

I would imagine being mid-may and avg temps have been aprox 70 during the day that the water wouldnt warm up that much this soon.

Yes you can, they have dozens of picnic sites with permanent onsite grills and picnic tables, you choose you do not need a permit for this.... The only permit you need is to secure your site for the day so no-one else can use it but you and your party.. I've been doing this for 20+ years and will continue to do so as this is one of the best picnic areas in the state. The permits are very cheap and can b purchased at the north entrance in the ranger office...
