My husband and I, and then my dad, adopted our cats from Cat People. The cats were very skittish and shy at first. Now, in our loving homes, they have become regular loving, cuddly and funny cats. Don't give up on them! My cat is hilarious and loyal, and my dad always says that while people think he saved Sophie, Sophie really saved him.

A wonderful, caring place for homeless cats and kittens. I have two kitties from them. They are ten now and were babies when I got them. Any help is appreciated. Time helping at the sanctuary or park feeding the strays. They are a great organization.

Ali, no I'm afraid we do not. We are at capacity both for space and manpower. If you are able, look into rescues and shelters out of this area. Bakersfield (and Kern County) are simply drowning in homeless cats and kittens.
Hi Cheyenne, we do not regularly have vet services. We are hosting a spay clinic January 7, 8 and 9. Check our Facebook page for all the details. If that doesn’t work for you we do have a voucher program. Message on Facebook if you need to ask about that.
Only one. they're located on East Drive.
The Cat People do have adoption services. There is a process. Best to call and make an appointment.
None. We are not taking any cats at this time.
I bought and placed chicken wire and placed it in my fliwer bed. It stopped all of that immediately and has worked for 5 years. You can cover the chicken wire with dirt or pepbbles its worth it. they will go away i promise
there r resources out there. do some research n homework. free clinics all the time. ive had several cats spayed nutered through the CAT PPL
Pamela, all the rescues and nonprofits are very heavily impacted right now because the shelters have been closed. Folks are having some luck with general appeals on a Facebook post. I know it’s not ideal but we are living in difficult times for the cats and kittens.
Thank you, Roxanne. Yes, Saturday 9-12 would be great. Thank you!
Depending on what section of the City you live that taking the cat to a County or City run shelter is the suggestion. City shelter if you live in an incorporated section of the City or the County shelter if your residence is in an unincorporated section of Bakersfield. At the time of this writing, The Cat People are full up with the arrivals of kittens from Spring.
Do you still need homes for your kittens? Did you send them somewhat be adopted if so where do you and them? What need are your kittens??
Yes! They are in need of things that you wouldn't even think of like...fresh towels, blankets, cleaning supplies, bowls...I believe they are in need of volunteers to do just what you said! I hope I am not over reaching here! Doesn't hurt to try!!
Hi Ramona, welcome volunteers for sure, however you must be over 18 and you need to fill out the volunteer application form on our website: TheCatPeople.org Thank you so much for your interest!
Hi, we aren’t completely sure what you are asking. We have kittens at our facility, and people all over town are looking to place kittens in homes. We are currently maxed out and so cannot take in any more kittens. Let us know if you need more info.
Hi, the best time to visit is Saturday 10-12. And no, I’m afraid we do not have any Spanish speaking volunteers. We need to find someone!
Call them for advice.
No, we’re so sorry. The shelters being closed for months has really impacted a lot of the rescues. We are beyond full.
do you still have these kittens?
Pamela, check with both city and county animal services. They both have had programs that help with spay/neuter. We can do two vouchers a month to an address. Each voucher is good for $25.00 off the cost of a spay/neuter at most offices in town. Critters without Litters and Goodcat Hospital probably have the best prices. If you would like our vouchers call the office and leave a message. 327-4706.
Hi, no I’m sorry. We are still completely overwhelmed. We have heard the shelter is hoping to reopen in January. That will relieve some of the pressure on all the animal organizations.
Unfortunately no. They have A LOT of cats they foster. Although the humans there are all amazing!
No, Cat People is full at this time. Thanks for inquiring. Good luck.
Excuse me. If you don’t take cats in then why are you called a sanctuary?
We have 20 or more right now, so I'm not sure. You can call them and ask.
The county or city animal shelters.
I have a female main-coon. 1,000 loyal and lovable. Needs a forever home.
The Cat People are not taking any cats in right now. Other shelters like KCAS or BSPCA will take it in and treat it.
