Gorgeous campground with plenty of pit toilets and potable water pumps. Not far from Mitchell Caverns part of Mojave and right at the end of the paved road, there is intermittent cell reception and lots of beautiful hiking right from the campsite!

Sites are spacious, hard packed and level. Nice views all around. Lots of space between sites. Water sources throughout campground. Dumpsters and dump station close by. Several great hiking trails right from campground. Remember - no reservations, first come first served.

The perfect place for astronomers to observe! The views of the Milky Way are out if this world!!!!! Such a great place and gorgeous scenery and the Ring Trail provides gorgeous views of Banchee Canyon...also make sure you visit Mitchell's Caverns which is not far up the road from the campgrounds. π½πΈπ½πΈπ½πΈπ½

Austere and beautiful - 20 miles off the main road. Only 4 other campers. No hookups but great views if you want to get off the grid (although I did have 1 bar).

I went there in 2019 and at that time, there were no paved roads to the campground. After I40 you've ~12 miles of unpaved road to the campground.
About 20 minutes. Don't speed. Allow time for parking below, and walking up to the visitors center. If you have reservations, relax. If not, do not expect a guided tour. At best, you can enjoy the outdoor scenery.
Off road vehicles are definitely not permitted at Hole in the Wall or anywhere around it, as it is in the Mojave National Preserve. The Mojave Road goes through the preserve. At times, I have seen street legal 4- wheel drive vehicles, like Jeeps and trucks, stay overnight at Hole in the Wall campground as they make their way along the route. The closest OHV areas would be Dumont Dunes or Stoddard Valley between Lenwood Outlet Center Dr. and the 247.
Its paved. So normal laws apply. Stay on trails.
It is 16 miles. To avoid speeding, allow 30-minutes, door to door. Park in the lower parking lot at Mitchell Caverns. The upper lot is tiny and rarely has an open space. No big trucks in the upper lot... not enough room. If you do not have reservations, don't bother, unless you just want to see the view.
