Its an old train station with a children's museum, (not free)but fun and interesting for the kiddos, food court, free train model railroad exhibition, the place is beautiful and majestic. I do recommend it and i hope i was able to help you decide wheter to visit or not. Bring Cash for parking space.
Brenda Watson entrance to the station is free but the children's museum isn't. I just wanted to clarify that for you.
Why don't Union station have Short ride entertaining train. Like Dinner trains. or Murder mystery train rides. I think that would pull more people to Union Station.

I'm not sure of all the names of the food establishments in Union Station but there is a coffee shop and 2 restaurants on the main level. There is a concession stand on the lower level for the movie theatre.

I would be careful. Recently Union Station announced there were fake tickets floating around. I hope you didn't get scammed. When I got mine, it was emailed to me with the full information as to date and time.

Depending upon where your location in the exhibit there are some places to sit. The one's I've seen are near or at the exit. Ask one of the volunteers if you're coming down and they should be able to direct you.
Union Pacific 4014 "Big Boy" arrived here at the Station Tuesday evening and left this morning. It's the world's largest operating steam locomotive. If you've been hearing more train horns than usual in the last few days its likely from 4014. I

AMTRAK is the only one at this time.
Daily arrivals and departures from Union Station.
The SOUTHWEST CHIEF operates between Chicago and Los Angeles, with Kansas City Union Station as an important stop.
The MISSOURI RIVER RUNNER travels from Kansas City to St. Louis and includes additional stops in Independence, Lees Summit, Warrensburg, Sedalia, Jefferson City, Hermann, Washington and Kirkwood.
Visit the AMTRAK WEB SITE for more information.

If you scroll down, the website lists all senior Management. If that isn't what you are looking for, there is a Contact page as well. https://www.unionstation.org/about
The Link can help you get from Union Station to Crown Center without having to go outside. It can get a little warm during the summer sun, even though it is air conditioned. And a little chilly in winter, even though it's heated.
For those with strollers, wagons or chairs, elevators are available to change levels. The Link is not a level pathway, some inclines and declines throughout should be expected.
There are additional paths you can take from Crown Center to various hotels in the area.
Day and long-term parking is also available behind the Station in the West Yards garage. Amtrak patrons can park in the West Yards for $12 per day. (Sourced from Visit KC website, 2019-11-16)
Union Station has no swimming pools for patrons to use, so no need for a hot tub. They do have the original steam pumps and piping used to heat the building in it's early days (in the basement). I'm sure some people were in hot water if one of the pipes burst down there.
The Westin and the Sheraton both are connected via an indoor link to Union Station. The Westin is directly across the street. The Hilton Home 2 and the Indigo are also very close... within 2 blocks.
Everything, with the holiday crowd, if you want to see the trains, Science city, the exhibits, maybe walk across the Link to the Aquarium and Crown Center...you could easily spend an entire day or 2 there
It depends on what you're buying tickets for. You can but tickets for different events and exhibits. Just going inside Union Station is free and some things like the Model railroad exhibit have no entry fee. They just have donation a box.
Can you take pictures and video of the dinosaurs revealed exhibit?
Through September 3rd Monday through Friday the hours are, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. . And on Saturday 10 to 7 and Sunday 10 to 5.
During the week it's $15. And on the weekend it's $17.95
I do believe it's the traveling exhibit on display. However there is so much to do at union station. Science city, planetarium, train stuff galore, plus you can catch the free tram to numerous places.
Passports can be done at the post office within Union Station. You will need to make an appointment, and make sure you have all the forms filled out correctly. The cost is around $135, but can be more depending on how fast you need it.
I believe it opened last weekend. They have a Christmas train for kids for a nominal fee. The planetarium will have Christmas shows starting in December.
I just inquired a couple days ago. Mummy exhibit runs until January. Info booth has not yet been informed as to what next exhibit will be. Stay tuned .. ;)
