Just been here once. I went around one loop about 8 miles. I think I saw one Aligater in the water. One person I spoke with said they sun themselves on the trail in the winter. Nice ride but be careful. Everyone I met were nice too. I plan to go back for more.

Questions & Answers

Is it safe for a female to walk alone on the trail in the morning?

Jeana Cohen | Sep 11, 2019
Phillip Jackson | Sep 11, 2019

The park gate only opens at 7am so it should be sufficiently light outside depending on the time of year. However, most of this trail is secluded and has little visibility or access to get in or out should you need. If in doubt bring a buddy. On the weekends there are plenty of runners and cyclists from sun up to sun down.

My husband and I actually took our dog there and DNR got us. We were told that because of the wildlife: gators and possible coyotes and things. That our dog was not allowed in the park.

Has there ever been an incident with an alligator and child? I’d like to hike the trail with a 7 year old. Is it safe?

linda anderson | Sep 10, 2020
LA Glickman | Sep 10, 2020

I don't know of a specific incident but I would not feel safe with a 7 year old child. May I suggest you visit okeeheelee park? I've seen many children there and they tell alligators don't like the nature trail because it's marsh.
