The nature is calming. This is a great place to hike or bike. The view of Salinas is good. Great for people who like hiking.

Nice place to mountain bike or hike. A lot of trails to ride. Quite a bit of climbing. Be ready.

Wonderful trail if you're more than a leisurely walker. The views are scenic, plenty of sun, and an occasional breeze as the day progresses. It is a challenge climbing the several hills. Take water and pace yourself, if you're not in shape or have physical limitations. No shade past the trail entrance, but occasional beautiful oak trees off the path.

Beautiful view of the Salinas Valley. It is about 400ft of elevation gain in around 1.75 miles so it is a bit steep. Can get pretty busy.

It's actually a beautiful wildlife preserve with hiking and biking trails now. There are waysides everywhere to let visitors know about the many people that passed through or served there. I think they've done a beautiful job and you should come see for yourself 😊
Not sure but i know the barricks and church is still there. I explored my first time in June and still so much to see
Boronda Adobe history center 333 Boronda Rd Salinas ca, 93907 You might be able to get more information, I was able to gather information about my mother's great-great grandfather.. Hope this helps
Stilwell Hall was an immense, 52,000-square-foot (4,800 m2) building that stood on a precipice at the edge of the Pacific on the west side of U.S. Highway 1, just across from the former Fort Ord military installation. The building was constructed between November 1940 and September 1943 under the initiative of General Joseph W. Stilwell. It served as a recreational facility for military members for just over fifty years before Fort Ord was closed in 1994. Abandoned, Stilwell Hall fell into disrepair and was torn down in 2003 after severe coastal erosion threatened to cause the structure, filled with asbestos and lead-paint, to collapse into the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
We lived at 401 Nijmegen Road. My Dad was SFC Nathaniel J. Phillips. I'm son of the same name as is my son and his son. We were there circa 65-66 then went to live in Riverside with my Aunt & Uncle. Dad left for Vietnam from here (Philly) in '69. Last time we saw him alive...wife & nine kids.My best friend in Fort Ord was named Garabaldi.
Sorry for your loss. Fort Ord National Monument does not maintain records for prior service members. Suggest you contact the Department of Defense or the US Army. Best of Luck.
Fort Ord is not a military organization and it is not in bad shape. Sections of the fort which were living/administrative quarters are in transformation. They will either be rebuilt or demolished. Fort Ord is now both a California State Park (Fort Ord Dunes) https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=580 and, it is Fort Ord National Monument https://www.blm.gov/programs/national-conservation-lands/california/fort-ord-national-monument

Hi, sir! Coach Rivera's dad His father, Eugenio Rivera, was an officer from Puerto Rico serving in the army there. No word about his mom, but I only know because he was the coach here for Carolina Panthers and he sure is missed!
Don't know that answer...however I would start with the V.A that and/ or your local Veteran Representative Office Hope that's helpful

What Jonathan said, and they are cleaning up areas and expanding/opening new trails. There are big plans for the future as well, connecting several smaller trails into one large system, ostensibly from Marina (or farther north) to Monterey (or farther south).
Hello Gary, Thanks for your service. The portion of Fort Ord that has become the National Monument does not include access to personnel records. Your question to your friends in the 54th will remain on the board. Hopefully your friends will view and respond. All the Best.
They also have autocross events held there on various weekends.
Great question, I did my basic training in 68/69 H41, it prepared me to be ready at anytime

I'm so sorry to hear that. I lived on Fort Ord in 1966. I was a child at that time though. I wish you the best on your search.
Fort Ord was named for Major General Edward Ortho Cresap Ord, a mustachioed mathematical genius, rumored descendant of King George IV and veteran of the Seminole, Indian and Civil Wars. Ord first came to California in the company of William Tecumseh Sherman and Henry Halleck, sailing around Cape Horn in 1847 to the Presidio of Monterey, where he served as First Lieutenant.
I served at Ft. Ord in 61 with the 7th Inf. Division. Served with some good guys. We took desert training and live fire at 28 plans for 2 months before headed to Vn
