Very cool little museum! Took my 4 teenage/preteen kids here and we all enjoyed it. Not too big but there is plenty of stuff to see. Really liked the old Bel Air and the model home. The kids, even though they're older, had fun in the play area. Definitely worth a visit!

I don't think we've been more impressed with a county museum than this one. We know more about Johnson County than the one we live in and it has an impressive history, especially in race relations. They had a wonderful exhibit on "Red Lining"; see it before it closes. The KidsZone was fun for our kids but it was because of playing with other kids. I'd say no older than 10, and that might be a little much.

I've been to a lot of county museums. Most just have displays of items that various people donated in hand-me-down display cases. But this one is really well-designed. Very large displays take advantage of the large space of this former bowling alley/skating rink. I was delighted to see the main theme being a 50's and 60's suburbia. The feature is a model all-electric house they somehow brought inside. Price is very reasonable. Plan on an hour.

Good afternoon, Eva! We recommend you allow an hour to browse our main exhibit and special exhibit gallery. Depending on how much you like to read, you may not need the entire time, or may wish to stay longer! If you're visiting with children, be sure to allow extra time to play in our children's exhibit, KidScape!
Hello Brenda - the flour sacks are part of our traveling exhibit from Mid-America Arts Alliance called Thrift Style that opened 2/6 and runs through 5/1. Here is a link with more details. We hope you come see this fantastic exhibit! https://www.jcprd.com/blog.aspx?iid=243
