4.5 mile up and back hike that is easy to moderate with 3 trips across the stream that is in view or hearing virtually the entire way. Wear water hikers or bring water shoes to avoid the need to soak your hiking shoes on this hike. During our early June hike, we found ourselves up to knee level in the stream while crossing each of the three points. Very fun and VERY cold water. The barefoot option is possible if you can handle the cold water, slippery rocks, and currents. Gear is a better option. Highly recommend this hike but get there early or parking becomes tricky. Also don't expect good internet for your phone within 3 miles so map out your adventure before you go. Several 1-lane bridges frequent your drive as you approach the parking area, so take the drive carefully.. Some polar bear swimmers were on trail at the stream sections so expect to see other nature lovers throughout your adventure. With water and nature all around, count on seeing the occasional snake or two to add to the Sheandoah experience.

Planning for the next work day! I'm working with another Eagle Scout Candidate, Tyler Brown on his Sugar Hollow Trail Connectivity Project! The Anglers Trail along the TJTU Section below the dam is being connected and marked leading to and along the Reservoir. The Lake View Trail is being laid out, trimmed, marked along the reservoir leading to the parking lot at the end of Sugar Hollow Rd. New signs will lead the way to anglers and hikers along the way and guide you to the SF Blue Hole, the NF Blue Hole, Big Branch Falls and beyond! Stay tuned for updates! Updated March 9, 2022 The Sugar Hollow Trail Connectivity Project -Tyler Browns Eagle Scout Project is now complete! The Lakeview Trail is blazed and cleared and signage is up! The new Trailhead is just 200 feet west of the dam parking area on the left. The west end of the trail comes out onto the SF Road/Trail just before it crosses the NF. Great job Tyler!

This is an amazing hike any time of the year. There are actually two hikes to separate falls that can be done individually from the same starting point or a 6 hour loop that includes a portion of the AT. If attempting the loop check out …

This place is THE hidden gem of Charlottesville that I am SO glad I stumbled upon. There is a hike trail but I have gone off the beaten path to make my way towards the water and to take in these views. This is a must experience when visiting the area!
