Paid for a vaccinated cruise. Found out the cruise had been changed to an unvaccinated cruise. I found out from Vacation to Go email. Holland America did not directly advise me of this policy change. Very disappointed in this unethical behaviour. They just lost a 4 star mariner.

I have booked a cruise and will lose all my money if I test positive for covid. This review I am writing is only regarding the cdc requirements that Holland America chooses to follow. This review has nothing to do with my travel experience on their cruises but I feel I have to write a review because every time I try to communicate with the cruiseline, I am given no opportunity to cancel my booking, or pay extra for cancelation insurance if I test positive and they refuse to let me board the ship. That means my $15,000 travel expenses will be lost. I have had four vaccinations for covid but the omicron varient is so transmissible and there are no other covid testing requirements for travel or work so I think they should stop the covid testing requirements immediately for cruiselines. Many cruiselines are no longer following CDC and Holland America is going to lose customers for making travel so difficult for their customers. If there are people on the ship that are scared to get covid they should stay home or wear a mask on the ship but they shouldn't put my money and travels in jeopardy, that's just wrong.

So much for their worry free guarantee and book with confidence—-no problem you get a credit for a future sailing! Not so fast. Did you already push back your trip due to them not sailing during the pandemic. If so, no credit for you. I’ll explain: I have a cruise planned for 7/2022. My husband does not want to get vaccinated. I wanted to push off the cruise until 7/2023. Everything else the same. Holland America says future cruise credits would expire this December. That is 12/22. The trip is to Alaska. What a scam. They change the terms of sailing, but they will not give what I paid back to me. I never agreed to their new terms. They don’t care. They say they are following cdc guidelines. Really? The government says only vaccinated can cruise. That worked out well we see how good a fully vaccinated ship did on a Princess ship that had an outbreak, And say it is true that the government is mandating all cruises be fully vaccinated (it’s no, but let’s just say it is) As that was not the original agreement how can they hold us to it. They changed the contract so my husband cannot sail. Ok, give me back my money, or let me book the following year. Same room, same sailing dates to same place—-nope. It is better for them to just take the money, so that is what they are going to do.

I was going to write a review about the actual Terminal and not about the HAL ships. Before I get to the Terminal review, I will give the ships a 5 star review also. As an avid cruiser who has gone on many different lines, HAL is my all time favorite. And, of all the Terminals I have embarked from Port Everglades HAL terminal is the easiest to get in and out of. Those that work there in the terminal are friendly and helpful. I am in a wheelchair and they always go above and beyond to make sure not only I, but all cruisers have a great first impression, no matter if it is your first cruise, or you are a seasoned cruiser. I love the decor on the outside of the elevators...Every time I am there, I forget to take a pic of the seashells and tiles that are so perfect,,, perfect to get you in the cruising mood. The terminal is cavernous, and a bit dated, not sleek like the Princess terminal there is, but you are only in there for a few minutes, just long enough to get through security and then get checked in. Both are really fast and efficient. When you get off the elevators, you find your first professional photo op. before heading to the gangway onto the ship. When you get aboard, everyone is dressed in their finest sailor outfits... I LOVE it!! Something you do not see on other lines, and is a wonderful throwback to sailing years ago. Of all the dozen cruise lines I have been on, HAL is the best by far! :-) The pics I have included are of inside the terminal when I was getting my chair worked on before we left port, and up on deck just before leaving. Also a look back at the port from sea, during a storm.
