Yes. This is a great way to help pay the monthly fee for an assisted living apartment and personal care services. It also covers memory care in our Compass Memory Support Neighborhood. People may not know that long-term care insurance can also cover respite care. We offer respite care here through our Short-Term Stay Program. Older seniors who aren’t ready to be home alone often stay with us following a hospitalization or when they have maxed out their Medicare-covered stay in a sub-acute rehabilitation facility. Our respite stay residents get a fully furnished apartment, and lots of personalized care and assistance from our wellness staff. This includes help with medication management. Taking new medications as prescribed post-hospitalization can be quite challenging for an elderly person who is still recuperating. If you have long-term care coverage check out your policy so you know what types of housing and care are covered and how much per day you will have to cover costs.

People often confuse assisted living communities with nursing homes. We do provide lots of wellness services for older people that nursing homes also provide. These include helping older seniors manage their medications, and assisting them with showering, dressing, and getting in and out of bed. Due to state regulations, our own staff can’t provide 24/7 skilled nursing care and physician oversight. However, individuals who live in our communities can bring in their own skilled nursing services just like they would if they were still living at home, through a 3rd party agency. So, someone who has chronic medical conditions that need to be monitored and managed regularly can live in assisted living, sometimes with outside agency help. If they are really sick and need round-the-clock medical care then a nursing home might be a better place for them.

It’s difficult to give an exact answer because the total monthly cost depends on the apartment's size and the services your loved one needs. Also we offer both assisted living and specialized memory care in two different areas of our building. Memory care is more expensive.
