If you can reserve a table in this piece of history, I highly recommend that you give it a try. The atmosphere is truly historical. You will truly feel like you are in an old tavern. The staff are attentive and professional on all levels. We started with appetizers and I highly recommend the pork belly. We both ordered the Beef Wellington, and the beef was the tenderest cute I have ever had. After dinner I had the chocolate goat cheese dessert and honestly think it awoke taste buds I didn’t know I had! Very exceptional! If you visit Newport you will have many options, but out of them all, this is a must!!

Amazing food. Period. The mushroom risotto was outstanding, and was a nice vegetarian option. The duck was cooked to perfection, just the right amount of fat and tasty skin. The beef Wellington was the best by far— medium rare, left us wanting more. The server was helpful after a little prodding and we were able to get a nice port to go with our taffy pudding. WOW. Making this our annual place when visiting Newport!

Love the atmosphere. The food was good. Some were amazing. Some were alright. The staff was really nice. A few things though: 1) The dress code is not fully enforced. Although it said "Please no athletic wear or shoes, hats, sleeveless shirts or distressed denim", on the website, I saw a few customers with athletic shoes and t-shirts. I don't think it's fair to me. I brought a pair of nice shoes to change specifically for the dinner at White Horse while I could have worn my comfortable sneakers. 2) Two issues with The Beef Wellington that I ordered. First, the beef was not fully wrapped with the puff pastry when the dish was served. There was a tear in the puff pastry (super minor). Second, the beed was supposed to be medium rare (see the photo). I didn't think it was medium rare although the server insisted that it was medium rare. They offered to make a new one for me, but I had a tight schedule that I couldn't afford to wait. So, I declined that offer. In terms of taste, the beef was alright. It was different from the other Beef Wellington that I have had.

The White Horse Tavern is a classy classic restaurant with a choice of traditional and eclectic menu items. You can expect courteous staff and consistent food and drink quality. The wine and cocktails available at White Horse suit the most particular tastes in great ways. Make reservations as tables there are always in demand, and often sold out. Cozy up near the fireplace for a warm, wonderful experience. Steak dinners are cooked to perfection. The bubbly cocktails are just pure happiness. If you’re in the mood to sample and nosh around Newport, the appetizer dishes shown here are delightful. The escargot in skillet was rich, decadent and tender. Do not miss the perfect tradition of the scotch egg. Beef carpaccio will make your tastebuds dance!

Not to particular just dont upset the host. It is a classic and very traditional establishment. If you place a reservation dont expect to add anyone last minute.
Check their website or, if you are in RI, talk to the host when you walk in.
Yes...although its limited....
Perfect for intimate conversation. Subdued noise level, excellent servers and perfect atmosphere. There is a reason they have been around as long as they have! A definite stop for all tourists!( and locals)
The desserts are VERY good, just make sure you have a reservation (and book it early in the week. They book up fast)
Actually they are permitted on patio. Thing is, they don't always serve food on the patio...drinks yes, food usually on weekends though not always. Best to call ahead.
