The woman I spoke to was incredibly rude to me on the phone. The system for requesting an appointment is not clear on the website, when I followed up over the phone she was very rude to me and acted as if I should inherently understand that there is a 2 month waiting period, which is stated nowhere online.

I would not recommend city paws. Staff have consistently been rude and they do not seem to care about actually helping your animals- just in it for the money. They might be ok for routine care but not if anything goes wrong. In the past, When our pet was sick we were told it would be a 4-5 day wait or that we had to go to Virginia. Recently- Our cat had his teeth cleaned there 5 months ago (which includes a full physical work up with labs etc). Our cat has been having loose stools for a few weeks- no other symptoms. When I asked to bring in a stool sample (just to be careful) I was told he must come in for a full physical because it had been so long… WHAT. such a money grab…. Impossible to actually speak to a doctor.

The staff is awful specially the receptionists... I think they're not happy with their jobs. My advice to them look for another job! They say is their policy and I believe that this is the true considering that I read before about they only caring about the money. They don't care about your pets. I am going there for a while and always get disappointed with something new. They cannot follow your pet’s history and always do something wrong. The last one for us was the wrong rabies shot they gave to one of our dogs. By the way if you need to take your dog there for an emergency remember that they only take you in if your dog is having a stroke and they’re still gonna charge you the price for an emergency. So good luck for you that decide to take your dog to their care.

Doctors are amazing. Support staff leaves a little to be desired. On my last visit, the assistant said she was pregnant and couldn’t pick up my (petite 10 pound dog) so she decided she would drag my already scared baby across the lobby down the hall. When I brought it to the attention of the front desk nurse, she argued with me rather than apologize.

How much does it cost to have a 20lb, 5 year old shitzu/poodle spayed?

I'm not totally sure, but their prices are pretty standard for the city and they're very good with the critters. If payment is an issue, they have payment plans. Friendship heights animal hospital also has a flat fee one can pay for a year's worth of care, which might be worth considering. Good luck to you and the little one!
