Me and my boyfriend rent a car on july 12th for one week. Instead of the Ford Mustang we originally booked online, we received a chevrolet Camaro. We drove carefully and reached Napa Valley. On july 14th, the tire-pressure light turned on and we decided to look for a garage to fix it as fast as possible. However, despite the fact that we were driving slower and carefully (we know obviously that in that kind of situation, we have to drive very gently), the tire blew up and we completely lost the control of the car, the airbags went out and the car was completely broken. The car half-turned over and went back on the ground. Black smoke began to come out of the AC, my boyfriend could have opened the door, but I was stucked in the car struggling to open the door. After the crash, I had to go to the hospital and my boyfriend had to come back all the way from Napa Valley to San francisco to take another car. He was asked to pay for the tow truck. Fortunately he didn’t pay because we are not responsible for this accident. The police came and an investigation was done ; the tire blew up and that’s the reason of the crash. We sent all the evidences and the documents we had to the insurrance and to Avis. However, even if we were not responsible, we did not get any refund or compensation for the disaster we experienced. Not even an apologize. It’s the kind of situation which stays in your mind during weeks, it was a shock. We couldn’t sleep and had to continue the travel with it… We lost a day coming back to san francisco to take another car and in the end, we had to pay the full amount of the rental. Is that normal that the tires blow up just at the beginning of the location ? Was the car correctly checked before we took it ? It is not the first time we make a location with Avis, and it was always very good. It’s really unfortunate that it happened like that this time… I just hope that Avis will see this comment and contact us. We could have avoid to end up in that situation, especially that I have to pay hospital fees.

It was quite straightforward, with all the choice and payment made by British Airways. The vehicle I received although comfortable and easily accommodated our luggage had the aerodynamics of a brick, its performance regarding economy was really lacking. I have never driven a car with such poor mpg, an idea might be to guide customers on the performance of the vehicles you are renting out. My vehicle was a JEEP, Compass, on rental choice, I selecteda Mazda CX5 or equivalent, I am still unsure JEEP, Compass is an equivalent to a MAZDA, CX5, I am not I will ever know. My rental deal was on the whole all inclusive but did feel pressured to purchase one final piece of insurance for breakdowns that would be considered my fault (I think), this was expensive and I genuinely felt conned, I bought it anyway as I did not need any drama. I am certain the same cover could have been secured for a whole year for the cost charged on the open market. It left a bitter taste in an otherwise pleasant experience. I was happy that the Avis agent arranged and allowed us to drop the car at a different location than had been arranged. I would use AVIS again but would do a bit more research in the economy performance of vehicles offered.

Picked up our car from San Francisco and drove to LA. Could not he happier with ease of collection and with how helpful and friendly the guy on the desk was that dealt with our booking. Excellent service guys. Ps, I still have the car, and I am hopeful that the experience when I drop off the car tomorrow in San Diego will be equally as worthy of a 5 star review. 🌟 I shall update as appropriate.
