I was awed by this sacred and beautiful space. Majestic halls, small nooks set amid gardens and trickling fountains make up an exquisite architectural labyrinth. I toured the facility thinking about all the souls who walked the earth and are now resting. Photos, flowers, momentos and memories adorn some niches. Flowing fountains added to my reverie and the peace I felt in this place. The tour made me realize how short and fleeting our lives are. Live and love your life well! The walk on Earth is short.

Nicole's professionalism gave our family comfort during such a difficult time. The service was beautiful and all my details regarding our own music and movie were followed perfectly. Thank you so much.

My Auntie has passed on July3, 2021in Oakland,CA. My Aunt had prepaid her cremation and earn etc.in full, but for some reason this facility has refused cremation,in order to suck more money out of my family, we are very upset with their services and want to alert others on how they are handling my aunt's final wishes. I would not recommend. Beware.we are looking into getting an attorney to look into this facility.

My dad passed away when I was a child, so I have been coming to Chapel Of The Chimes for over 50 years. In 2017, I lost my beautiful mom and my brother. I visit here very often, because it gives me peace as I am still grieving. Lately, there has been an issue. When I place items along with flowers on my mom and dad’s combined niche, they are being taken. The first time this happened was Mother’s Day 2020, and has now happened 3 more times. I know the items are taken, because my sister or sister in law always put flowers for the holidays a few days after I do. Four times now, they have told me the items I put in the niche were gone when they went there. I just couldn’t believe that this keeps happening. I spoke to a staff member after this occurred after Easter this year and asked her about security or cameras. Denise, the staff member, very rudely told me they don’t have security and have no intention of adding security. I than spoke with the General Manager Cary, and told him the situation. I explained I understand if wilted flowers are removed from the staff, but other items should not be removed. Also, the quickness in which the flowers have been taken between my visits and my sisters, I don’t think the flowers would be wilted. Anyway, I told him that I didn’t think it was staff and that something else is happening here. He said he realizes it’s a metropolitan area and things will happen. He gave me lip service and said he would tell staff to watch out more. Now two weeks ago, for Morhers Day I placed flowers and a love you mom balloon and when my sister went there a few days later, everything I placed was gone yet again. I was livid at this point. I left a message over the weekend for Cary to call me, it is now Wednesday and I have not heard from him. The bottom line is that this staff does not give a damn! I have a call in to the newspaper to let them know about the lack of security at this beautiful, historical building.

A basic cremation without any service starts at $2395 (not including death certificates, cremation permit(s), taxes, permanent urn, DCA fee, coroner's fee [if applicable], and any ancillary items). This cost would include basic overhead charges, transportation from place of passing, sanitary care, and basic cremation container. Cremation with memorial services in our chapel run from $3120 to $4675 (not including parenthetical items mentioned above), and a traditional funeral with viewing prior to cremation averages between $5435 to $8240 but can run more depending on what you buy. You can, for example, spend that much or more on flowers if you so desire!
Niche prices vary by size of niche, level it's on, and location. As opposed to a building, the penthouse in the columbarium is a relative bargain. Prices range from about $3000 all-inclusive for a quarter niche for 1 at Chapel of the Chimes in the newer sections. But if you want a spot in the Julia Morgan part of things, you'd be lucky to find a niche for $10k, but most are in the high five figures all the way to about $165,000 (including endowment care) for the ones in Garden of Promise.
They are both actually next door at Mountain View Cemetery, at 5000 Piedmont Avenue, not at Chapel of the Chimes.
Go to the front desk near the parking entrance, they have a directory there
There are niches and areas in the chapel for ashes and coffins. Mountain View is close by and has ground burial.
A quarter niche for one at the tippy top will run you $3k all-inclusive (niche, open & closing, recording fee, urn, engraving). Just a niche for two at the very top will run about $4400. Prices midlevel are more in the $12k to $50k range while the premier locations are low 6 figures.
Please email me back rather than posting on Google Maps. Thanks.
No wood allowed at Chapel of the Chimes, Roxanna, in glass-front niches.
I work at Chapel of the Chimes, and I can certainly investigate. If is is possible, there are a number of steps necessary to make it happen. Good for you to plan ahead!
Hi Roxanna, I am a Family Service Counselor at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. Which location are you speaking of, Hayward location or Oakland? Please call Chapel of the Chimes so that i can better assist you. Thank you
Tandem crypt prices vary by level and range from about $14300 for crypt only on the top tier to about $33000 for a heart-level tandem crypt. If you purchase a spot preneed (before somebody has passed), discounts are available. Offer costs include the funeral (if you use our funeral home; this would include items such as the casket and our basic overhead charge), opening & closing the crypt (currently $1495 for each casket), or a crypt plate. You can purchase all goods and services before need and lock in all cemetery and funeral home prices at today's rates. This doesn't include things over which we have no control such as death certificates, DCA fees, and permits.
