Great place to visit. Beware of the tricky drive but the views of the Bay Area are well worth it! Check out the concert series and telescope viewing opportunities - wonderful evening.

We drove from Livermore on Mines Rd. Don't be in a hurry. It's about 50 miles of curvy road with plenty of switchbacks. What an absolutely beautiful drive! Once you get to the top of Mount Hamilton and the Lick observatory you realize that it was well worth it. Absolutely stunning views. They have both free and paid tours of the telescopes.

Beautiful panoramas of the bay and a great place to look at telescopes if you're a nerd like me. Sunset is especially awesome.

Best place at altitude ~4200 Ft. to experience awesome sunset in mountains. It’s about an hour drive from San Jose with super winding but so well built and maintained mountain road! So many valley sides are without guard rails so one has to be super careful while driving! While on downhill after sunset you can view the whole silicon valley so mesmerizingly lit up with night lights, it’s beautiful and only to be experienced, words are not enough to describe the scene!

Call before going up that Very Narrow, Very Long, Twisty road!
The observatory is open to the public year-round Thursday through Sunday, from 12 to 5 p.m. -Lick Observatory (ucolick.org)
They have a few special viewing nights every summer called the Summer Series where the public can look through two telescopes. Tickets go fast!
Hi i'm trying to do the same have you tried it or someone reached out for you with an answer?! I would appreciate your reply
yes
No sorry not allowed
Yes, at summit. A small lot so don't think of taking a full size 45ft bus up there!
Its not a campground. If you are coming from the Patterson side, there is a offroad and camping park about an hour away. I believe it's called la grange
I'm sure it's still closed
At the moment it is not sawn due to the fires of a year ago
Currently closed to the public
No. Even access to observation deck is closed as of last week.
I don't have
Not at the summit--it's currently closed to the public. However, there are plenty of light pollution free spots a mile east of the summit along 130. Pull off the road onto a shoulder and set up. That's what I did to view NEOWISE last week.
No restaurant up there for sure. There are tables and chairs in the court yard for visitors to relax/rest and enjoy picnic. No fire/flame though. Hours are 12:00PM to 5:00PM Thursday through Sunday. Have fun!!!
Hi, there is no charge
Aren from 12 p.m to 5 p.m
No but you can still see landscape outside. It is wonderful
Lick observatory has evening with the Stars program where public view through telescope. But tickets are sold out immediately. Check for them in ucsctickets.Com.
I've seen no rules stating it's allowed or disallowed, but they seem to be okay with it. While the visitor center will of course be closed, access to the parking lot and surrounding roads is unrestricted. The only signs posted say no camping overnight and "Quiet Zone" (please be respectful of the fact that people who work at night may be sleeping during the day... And even if it's night, be respectful of the fact that they're doing important research). People do stop up here in the middle of the night. Sometimes to do stupid things. But plenty of people come up here to watch the meteor shower, and I've never had any problems. I'd like to think that because they observe the sky for a living, they have an understanding and appreciation for the desire to utilize this excellent location for Perseid viewing. So long as you are respectful (BE QUIET and LEAVE THE PLACE IN THE SAME CONDITION YOU FOUND IT). They seem to tolerate it. In fact, they seem to be doing the exact same thing! 🤓☄️🌌
Call them, not a one time visitor!
Don't know as last bicycle rode it in,,, 1973, very steep and no shoulder. DANGEROUS. But then 2 friends and I bicycled all the way up and across most of CANADA, which is Much Wider than shown on a map. The best Adventure 3 25yr old "boys" could Share! Suggest you call and ask the County Sheriff. If it's closed still, try the Saratoga road to Skyline and down another road, that will be almost as hard. On day 2 we biked from WG to Saratoga to Skyline to Frisco and a Quaker friend's mansion in Sea Cliff, sleeping on the livingroom floor with a picture window view of the Golden Gate Bridge! Dream with Friends! The Best "vacation", such hard work, I Ever had.
