The maritime museum is fun to see ships of different ages. This is great for families, especially with kids who love "pirate ships". Very informative and interesting. Liked being able to go into ship

The Star of India is the largest ship in the Maritime Museum and arguably the most interesting. Take the time to read the history of the vessel on the plaques spread throughout as it's quite interesting. The ship had an entire career of bad luck and suffered a mutiny (the first of many) on it's very first voyage. You can easily spend and hour walking through the exhibits. One important thing to note is bathrooms have been installed onboard for convenience.

The magnificent Star of India and the Maritime Museum collection of historic sailing ships is one of San Diego's top attractions. -- This "tall ship," technically a barque, was launched as the Euterpe on November 14, 1863 at Ramsey, on the Isle of Man. It is the oldest surviving merchant vessel still afloat. The entire restored ship, its decks and quarters are open to visitors, with numerous informative displays and ship models below decks. -- The Star of India is also periodically available for 4 hour sailing tours of San Diego Bay. Don't miss it. Check the Maritime Museum website for more information.

Arya Srinivasan | Jan 16, 2019
John Ess | Jan 17, 2019

If you mean when, it was 1863. The why: she was originally named the Euterpe, and her first job was trading cotton between India and England. Later, an American company renamed her the Star of India because of that first job.
