The woman I worked with to transfer my car title in NC was extremely helpful and knowledge. She told us exactly what we needed and made the process a lot less painless. Keep an eye for tickets left on the table people didn’t use. You may get an earlier position if people were kind of enough to pay it forward.

6/19/22 Girl doesn’t know what an instant title is. She told me the instant title takes 16 days. So I went to the other license plate agency and the lady explained that my title was already printed and mailed thus not eligible for instant title. I’d have to request a duplicate title which takes 16 days. Girl needs to learn the difference between an instant and duplicate title. Also instant titles are printed the same day.

If I could give this DMV a negative 5, I would. I received paperwork from another DMV and when I went to turn it into this DMV all signed and notorized, my paperwork wasn’t accepted. My brother had the same exact paperwork for a different car title and went to a different DMV AND HAD NO PROBLEMS getting his car registered. They also don’t follow their own guidelines and allow people to skip the line. They blame it on being “understaffed”. It only appears to be in overflow because they won’t accept paperwork that is clearly acceptable and accepted by other DMVs. I witnessed another man told he didn’t have everything necessary either and to come back. This faculty has a very poor staff quality with highly uneducated, lazy and inefficient workers at this DMV. They should shut down the facility or have it closely supervised by authorities at all times to witness the unprofessional behavior of the staff working.

Walk-ins only. If you're dropping off plates, there's a basket up front, no wait necessary unless you need a receipt. Be prepared, it will most likely be at least a 30 minute wait if not longer. Be sure to pay attention to the color of the ticket you grab, it matters!

It is hard to say due to not setting appointments. We have tried appointments before and often times turned out worse than walk-ins. We open at 8 am and encourage people to try to come a few minutes prior if they need a quick in/out. We are also not opposed to folks calling ahead to see how we are looking for current wait times. You don't need to make appointment just turn in plates at Kerr Ave location don't even have to get on line just walk up throw the plate in the basket that they keep right there in the front
Need to call 919-715-7000...you might be on hold for awhile (left me on hold for 1 1/2 hrs. I just did speaker phone)...but they do eventually answer
