My wife and I had the pleasure to be part of the Brookdale community when recently she spent two-weeks in their care, which provided me a period of respite and chance to travel and visit with family and friends. Being a long-term, primary caregiver, I was extremely nervous about leaving her in a nursing facility. From the first contact, Brookdale's staff couldn't have been more personable, caring, and patient as we worked out the details. Their memory facility was a clean, cozy, active, and happy place. Throughout my wife's stay, Brookdale's family atmosphere engaged and enveloped my wife to the point where she was comfortable, content, and functioning at a high level. This allowed me to enjoy my time on my own. Of course, while giving us a break, absence made our hearts' grow fonder; now reunited, my wife and I are very much refreshed and enjoying each other's company. Because of the positive experience at Brookdale, periodically we plan to return for respite care in the years to come. Thank you, Brookdale staff.

Current issues taking place at Brookdale Wilmington: 1) Over half the staff has quit due to pay disputes and poor management. The staff right now is all supplied through an employment agency. This would be fine, except Brookdale charges for, and promises, that all staff have special dementia training. 2) Employees continue to drink on the job. This has been an ongoing issue that continues to this day. 3) The community was recently tagged for neglect by the county. This was mainly due to poor staffing and improper skin assessments. This will not be resolved until staffing is back up to par and proper training is taking place. 4) They will promise you that every resident receives adequate and personalized engagement. This is not true. They have one person who engages the same 6 residents day in and day out. I personally would not move my loved one into this community until I was assured all these issues had been adequately resolved. God bless 🙏 and good luck! John

So impressed with Brookdale. The entire staff is super friendly and very attentive. They take action and are so helpful to the seniors. The activities director is amazing, energetic and really engages each and every person on a personal level. Keeps them laughing. He stayed the whole day doing a wide variety of different things with the residents. If you ask me, I believe stuff like this makes a bigger difference than having top of the line immentites elsewhere.

I transferred my mom from an assisted living facility in NY to Clare Bridge. I had nothing but problems from day one. First, even though I wrote her name on her clothing and towels, they were constantly getting mixed up with other residents. I would even find male clothing in my mother's closet. Secondly, my mom had always worn a ruby ring that she never took off, it suddenly disappeared off of her finger. She is not audible so was not able to tell me who took it. Management showed little concern. When I had spoken to another caregiver, he also had the same problem. His wife's wedding ring disappeared so he purchased another one. It disappeared also. I witnessed patients falling on the floor, and had to find a staff member to pick them up too many times, this was usually on weekends when management was off. The last straw occurred after I took my mom for a dental appointment and discovered that she had sores in her mouth so bad that the bone in her mouth was exposed. She was in so much discomfort she stopped eating. What was Clare Bridges solution, to put her on a medication that made her feel hungry, thus forcing her to eat. Dentist told me that Clare Bridge was doing an extremely bad job of brushing her teeth if they were brushing them at all. In addition, after the first year there, monthly charges increased over $500 per month. I had been searching for 6 months to find a better place and when I did, good bye Clare Bridge!!!! I am extremely happy with the care she is receiving at her new location!!! By the way, Clare Bridge was recommended by the organization "A Place for Mom". What a joke!!! Be careful who you listen to.
