I really wish I could give no stars. After a long night of running through the dark streets with a flashlight, sobbing looking for my dog who escaped, I decided to call the local vet to see if anyone turned her in, they did. But I was told I’m not allowed to pick her up and had to wait for her to be taken to the shelter in the AM, even though I had her emotional support dog picture ID and many vet records with our names on it. She is in training to be a service dog for myself, she detects and calms down my anxiety attacks and is training to detect low/ high blood sugar, I didn’t understand why she was being held from me. I headed to the shelter first thing in the morning and was there for about 2 hours filling out “paperwork” and was forced to pay for her spay appt against my vets orders, vaccines that I didn’t consent for ( she had all her updated ones last month ), a “dog license” and other pointless “fees” that landed me at $500! When all I wanted was my dog back. So thanks for taking advantage of people and making a profit off distraught owners trying to bring their pet home. You don’t already make enough charging hundreds of dollars for pets you found on the street? And you wonder why so many people don’t adopt from shelters.

My dogs got stolen from my house back yard by a family relative and taken to the santa cruz animal shelter. I went to claim the dogs to the shelter and letting them know what had happen and even telling them I had surveillance video when they took then they didn't care and gave them for adoption. I hate this place more than anything else

Super friendly and informative. Today on May 6th 2022. I visited the Animal shelter and unfortunately at the moment their Dog kennel is under construction. All other animals are able to visit especially cats. If you're interested in adopting a dog (like i wanted to) they have colored pictures with full details of your future furry companion. Once you've selected which dog you like. They will set up a One on One visitation on scheduled date. You're able to fill in an application that will be good upto 1 year. That way if you don't find anything you're interested in on the day. You'll be able to come back throughout the year. Be sure to have your California I.D. to provide a photo copy for their records. I hope this help you interest in adoption. They also have a lot of volunteer work available you're animal lover like myself don't hesitate to give them a call yo see what they have available.

I got the love of my entire heart and life here. Photos attached. She's very small for her age and only weighed 7 lbs, She was not particularly fond of other cats and had regressed a bit at the shelter, likely because of people's prejudice about her coating and her fear kept her from being adopted. It was rough at first, she's my first ever cat family member, but I absolutely love her. She's very happy now, she has a cat tree, windows to watch birds, squirrels and deer from, she has 4 human servants and fancy AF food. She tells me what she wants and she gives so much affection.

Yes, Yvonne, you can. Always give them a call, before you will go there. People are very nice in there. The very best to you!
You can sign up on the website to volunteer and schedule your orientation.
I am not sure but they might
thats a dumbass question to be honest
You get a plastic / cardboard kennel when you adopt :)
Go there and do it in person.
I do not work at the shelter.
Don't agree one bit. Sorry, not sorry. They have been more than amazing everytime I've been there. They work hard and love the animals there. Just got a kitten there a week ago. All shots up to date. Flea meds and neutering. I love my kitty, and I'll always support this shelter 100% <3
Best you call the SPCA directly and have them answer that question
I have no idea if they have any Hamsters. I know they have dogs and cats. Why don't you give them a call and find out for yourself. A friend just now told me she saw Bunnies and Hamsters there, but call them anyway.
Last time I was there, which was a week ago, they had like four guinea pigs!
The spaying/neutering costs here are very low. Check their website under “planned pethood”. Appointments need to be booked a few weeks in advance
Leyna Kyle explained it perfectly. Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is an "open door shelter" that excepts ALL animals, it is NOT a "no kill shelter". They also work with many animal rescue groups in the area to try to find homes for animals they can not, but even then it is not always possible. If more people spayed and neutered their pets it would help. The shelter also has low cost spay and neutering available, as well as education.
? age unknown,
You can if you don't want anyone knowing
There are no dates, but it's definitely not the same day
We just had our little kitty done for $35. And that included the chip.
