My family has been a part of the Span program for the last three years. Our worker Kirby is fabulous and I don't know what we would have done without her help over the years. She has attended school meetings, and conferences for my children, helped with IEP's and getting services in place for them, she has been a shoulder t cry on when things are tough, a voice of reason and understanding, and such a supporter and our personal cheerleader. The program has been so beneficial to my family and has helped us grow and bond together after my children's adoption. It's given me a strength I didn't know I had to help my children who are healing from a very traumatic beginning. I can not adequately express my gratitude and appreciation for Kirby and the program!

We are so very impressed with the SPAN Program at CHS! Kirby, our support worker handles our children and us in a manner that honors our family values and culture beyond measure! We are very thankful for CHS and it's support in our post-adoption care of our family. We believe that these types of programs is what makes adoption the best it can be! Thank you, CHS!! You ROCK!

Questions & Answers

Is there a possibility of finding a child placed for adoption in the early 60s?

The best thing to do is visit our website chsnc.org/contact, go to the Contact form and there will be a dropdown on the form that says "Family Finding". Select that option and the correct specialist will be able to provide more information.

Is there a way to find out who my bioligical parents are? I was born September 14, 1957 and was adopted January 13, 1958. Both my adoptive parents have passed away. I have always had abandonment issues and it may help to find them. Please help me.

Great question Cindi and thanks for reaching out. We may be able to help depending on how the case was setup and if they went through CHS or not. The best path would be to contact us via our website chsnc.org/contact and provide as many details as you know, and the proper specialist can contact you.

Is there a way to find a birth parent after 47 years? I was adopted from here, but both of my adoptive parents have passed away. I feel alone. Can anyone help me?

This is a very good question and is asked quite often. It really depends on the individual case at the time. The best bet is to contact us at chsnc.org/contact and provide any background information you may have (county adopted in/from, name of adoptive parents, etc). Our specialists will research the information and get back with you about any information that can be provided to you.

I know when I have been interested in learning about adoption, I first went to their website (https://www.chsnc.org/adoption-and-foster-care/), then filled out their form. I also have gone to look at when their training sessions are (https://www.chsnc.org/events/category/information-meetings/list/). They seem to be very responsive when I have contacted them before. Did you look at those places?

I just found out I have a half sister that was put up for adoption in the 60's I don't have a name just she was born in Salisbury NC. I really want to find her

We offer a services where we can sometimes connect families based on information we have. The best thing to do is fill out the contact form at chsnc.org/contact with as much information you have (name of sibling, name of biological parents, adopted through CHS, or anything you may have). Thanks so much!

What percentage is your success rate in finding identifying info on adoptions in the 1960's

Mike Sipe | Sep 2, 2020

It's hard to give a percentage because there are many different factors. We suggest you reach out to us at chsnc.org/contact and provide as much information as you can so one of our Family Finding specialists can assist you.
