I used to live in some TRULY terrible housing! I mean this place was beyond what a person should have ever been paying rent for! One of their staff members really helped me out with my landlord. Because I had been super nice and tried to give him 60 days notice to let him know that I was expecting my Section 8 housing voucher to be coming through. However, he then told me that his mother WANTED to close up the place where I was staying. This was going to cause a real problem for me because my voucher hadn't been issued quite yet. I was just being nice to let him know I expected it to be coming soon. So I let the worker from the Housing Coalition come and see the conditions I was living in, because frankly I just knew that nobody would believe what I was undergoing. I mean the roof was leaking so bad I had to put buckets down. The bathroom didn't have a light fixture.. just a naked wire. No hot water. I had to run a garden hose from my kitchen tap into the bathroom in order to have hot water into the tub. The bathroom window had fallen out so it was nothing there but a giant hole. The landing where you go up to the steps was a big hole. So I had to scavenge boards and other things to put over it to keep from falling into the hole. My boyfriend was very sick and the EMTs told me that I was going to have to start bringing him downstairs because it was TOO dangerous for them to come up and get him! There were hardly any lights too! So the Housing Coalition guy told my landlord not to give me any further problems until I got my voucher. Because he NEVER should have been charging rent for anybody to live there! And after I moved out, I drove by and I saw a condemned sign on it. 403 N. Dudley St Greensboro NC if you want to go see it.
