Such a historically beautiful piece of Tampa culture preserved in pristine condition! The venue shows movies and special events in such a unique way! You can purchase snacks and local beers or well crafted cocktails as you view a show in style! I definitely recommend going upstairs for a different perspective! Parking is a little tricky at times as you will almost always have to pay in the streets or surrounding lots, but it's worth it!

Stopped out today for showing. Not my first time in the theatre but one of the most beautiful, ornate theaters I've ever been in. If you don't know the history of this historic, non-profit theater opened in 1926, I highly recommend a trip to their website and to the theatre itself.

What a treasure this place is. I lived in Tampa 5 years when I went to USF and started my career, then moved back to the area 4 years ago. I missed out by not getting to the Tampa Theater much sooner! The architecture is singular- sort of a tropical Spanish Art Nouveau. Gorgeous tile floors and features, gargoyles along the lobby ceilings and the theater ceiling line makes it look like a nighttime skyline. Wow. As to practical matters, the AC struggles to keep up with a full house, but I was comfortable after I settled into my seat. My seat was comfortable and I could see the stage well from my back-row seat in row X. Bar lines are long but move fast. Staff was very courteous. One quibble - its 2022, time for electronic tickets. Standing in line at a will-call table was the only disappointment. Folks, its 90 degrees with 90% humidity. Let’s speed this up! Overall, I was chuffed and will look for events at the Tampa Theater just to go back and enjoy this local gem. Recommended.

Found this theater while walking around after dinner. We were so impressed with the old building we thought we would see a movie. The inside of the theater is amazing. You don't get recliner seats but you do get velvet seats that take you back in time. If you haven't been there you really need to go.

More then 4, The Hilton, Downtown hotel, Hampton inn, 915, but those are the four I can think of at the moment.
We enjoy a reputation as one of the most haunted buildings in Tampa! Come out for one of our ghost tours in October, and we'll tell you all about Fink Finley, Paul Short, Robert Lanier and all the rest.
Hi Saul! Yes - in fact, we just had one of our public Balcony-to-Backstage tours this morning. We do two public tours a month, and Amanda is right that those become ghost tours in October. I'm not able to include a hyperlink here, but if you visit our website, you can find a tour schedule under the "Films & Events" header.
Hi, If the performance is showing as sold out online, all tickets for that performance are sold. We do not hold tickets for walk-in. Thanks!
A very small amount of time is devoted to the history of the theater in a trivia question form.
Yes they have.. but only for event. Otherwise there are plenty of ticketed self parking on the same road.
Street parking is free north of Kennedy after 6pm and on weekends. The William F. Poe city garage is only 2 blocks away at Ashley & Cass and is only $1.20/HR The Poe garage rarely is full, unless there is a big event at the Straz. Alternately, the Ft.Brooke city garage at Franklin & Whiting has over 2000 spaces available nightly and is just 4 short blocks down Franklin St. from the Tampa theatre. If you take the bus, you can avoid parking all together and the Marion Transit center terminal is only 4 blocks north of the theatre.
They have everyone wear masks but no distancing
on the streets and around the corner. also, after 9 parking is free
Hi NeeCee! Once Tampa Theatre safely reopens, your best bets for parking are: Metered spaces in the vicinity of Tampa Theatre (north of Kennedy Blvd.) are free after 6pm Monday-Friday and all day Saturday & Sunday. Before 6pm Monday-Friday, metered spaces have a two-hour time limit (four hours for disabled patrons) and can be paid by cash, debit or credit card at the pay stations or through the Parkmobile app, available at www.parkmobile.com. The closest public parking garage is the William F. Poe Garage, located about three blocks west of Tampa Theatre at 800 N. Ashley Drive between Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and the John F. Germany Public Library. Hourly parking rates start at $1.20. There is a parking lot immediately adjacent to the Tampa Theatre and one on the block southwest of the Theatre (between Zack and Twiggs), both operated by 717 Parking Enterprises. These lots are NOT owned or managed by Tampa Theatre, and patrons are advised to read carefully all posted regulations.
Not cancelled, just postponed. As soon as the new date is decided and announced, ticket sales will resume!
$11.00 a ticket general admission. $8.00 a ticket if you're a member.
Jason is right, Cathy! Our first-run films are $11, and classics are $10. But special presentations and live shows vary greatly depending on what it is.
Great question, Oscar! Unfortunately, Tampa Theatre does not manage a single parking space in downtown Tampa (or anywhere else, for that matter). But, as some of the other patrons who have provided answers here mentioned, the metered spots on the streets surrounding the building are free after 6pm and on weekends. If those are not available, your next best option is the Poe Garage at Ashley and Cass streets, which is just a few dollars per hour.
The website says that starts showing Tuesday Sept. 17.
Hi Robert! Although we do not have a designated drop-off area, Franklin Street - right in front of our building - is a small, quiet street, and you should have no trouble pulling over to the curb and dropping someone off right in front of our Box Office. Both the city-owned Poe Garage (about three blocks away at Cass & Ashley) and the privately owned surface lots near the Theatre have credit card machines and do not require an app to pay. (Our best advice, though, is to try to find a metered spot on the streets surrounding the Theatre, which are free after 6pm on weekdays and ALL WEEKEND LONG!)
Hi Charnelle! We are a one-screen, 1,200-seat movie palace built in 1926. We DO rent the Theatre out for private events regularly, but we do not have small event spaces; when you rent Tampa Theatre, you get the whole thing. :) If you have specific questions about event rentals, I encourage you to visit our website (unfortulately, Google won't let us send you that address here, but just search for Tampa Theatre and we'll pop up!) and look for "rent the Theatre" under "Contact & Connect."
Yes - he does have a short, 15-minute opener for each show.
Hi Roy! Yes, we have done them for the past two years, and it's always a great event! This year, though, we had a live show that we just couldn't refuse book on Feb. 14. So we're having to take a year off from the Valentine's Day Vows event, but we're looking forward to bringing it back next year!
Hi Sueanne! If you've lost your tickets, you will need to visit the will call table with photo ID so we may issue you Location Passes for your seats. This way, if those lost tickets get into the wrong hands and someone else tries to use them, you will be the only ones allowed in those seats.
Hi Kathy! Will call will start at 5 this evening, out under our historic marquee. If you want to pick up your tickets before then, they'll be available any time at our Box Office. Have fun tonight!
Unfortunately the Theatre doesn't control any parking itself. There are two pay-parking lots less than a block from our front door, one on the same block and the other across Franklin Street. On-street metered parking, if you can find a convenient spot, is also available and frequently the best option. Thanks!
Doors typically open 30 minutes before new films, and an hour before our big Sunday afternoon classics.
I don't think so but not positive.
Proscenium Opening : 20’ 1” Height @ Center Line 24’ 9” Width @ Base Boards Maximum Effective Projection Surface: 14’ 8.5” High x 23’ 3” Wide
Maps shows one in the general vacinity. Travel times vary greatly based on traffic. I'd say 10 - 60 minutes.
Best to go early evening
Hello Laura, Sometimes we show movies in Spanish, but they always have English subtitles. We mainly show movies in English. Thanks!
It depends. Mostly 8-10 dollars.
That is just fabulous! I didn't know that!! How interesting!!
