Salvage Monster

We had nice time on the tour. Grandson was there to hunt ghosts. And the nice tour guide made sure he had a extra special tour for him. Even let him play ball with the ghosts. And bonus for adults, free samples after the tour

We rented a three bedroom floating cabin. The marina area around the cabin was very dirty, smelly, and run down. The dock area was a hazard with many uneven surfaces and poor lighting at night. Inside the cabin was in disrepair (broken/missing trim, holes in the ceiling, dusty, etc.). The couch was downright filthy almost to the point of not wanting to even sit on it. The AC unit seemed to not be working properly, but there were two window units that helped keep the inside temp around high 70s/low 80s. Our toilets were clogged and inoperable at two different points during our stay. The outside poop pump (which was located right beside our cabin along with the gas pump) wasn’t working properly and that was what contributed to the bad smell that we experienced when trying to sit out on the front porch/deck. There were restrooms located across the parking lot in another building but you had to have a code to get in. We weren’t given the code on arrival so we had to wait until the store opened the next morning to be able to access the bathrooms. This was after discovering that our toilets weren’t working. It was very stressful. The marina store is only open til 5 which means that amenities end at 5 (pool and pontoon rental). So no swimming after 5pm. We rented a pontoon with the only option for full weekend rental. We arrived shortly after the 3pm check in time on Friday so there wasn’t time to get out on the boat after unloading our things. We had groceries so we couldn’t have arrived earlier because we would’ve had no where to store our items. It rained off and on Saturday (no refund for weather). We were able to get out a couple hours between rain showers. Check out is at 10am Sunday so again no where to store our groceries that were going home with us. So basically had to pay $425 for 2-3 hours of boat time. Half day and full day rental should definitely be available options. Pros are that the sheets were clean, beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean and well stocked with towels. The pontoon we rented seemed well-cared for and the staff was friendly. I would not recommend this place. We certainly did not get what we paid for. After taxes and cleaning fees, almost 800 for two nights. (Plus the 475 for the pontoon). Very expensive mistake. Will never return.

We stopped by Hales Bar Marina to find out some information about what they had to offer. They were friendly and gave us info and suggestions. We came back Thursday and sent three out on the paddle boat rental while we booked pontoon boat rental for Friday. We were the first to rent their awesome double slide pontoon. The boat was awesome, the river was awesome, and the views were spectacular! Best family time ever. Thanks Hales for making this a great vacation.

Had a wonderful family vacation this memorial week. Loved the floating cabins and being off the grid enjoying the fresh air and fishing. Beautiful area and great friendly staff. Will definitely be back!

I have called several times and left messages - no one calls me back or answers the phone. I wonder if they are still in business.

Yes you can and it's the best way to see the full beauty of the river gorge! Nothing like it. You can boat to downtown Chattanooga for lunch in about 30 minutes depending on your speed.

Mathew Odum, The power station and steam plant are still there and you can explore it if you message the Hales Bar page. The new owner has events and tours. My dad grew up there across the river and I toured the power station and steam plant in October. I have heard lots of stories from my dad.

I'm told they were burned out also the place where Records were kept was burned by carpet baggers. Supposedly the town was named after my Family. The Hales immigrated to the United States and im sure it was Native American land because they were here first.
