Maintained Fort structures and information/ exhibits makes you feel like you were really there in person, hallowed ground. Feel bad for what we did to the native peoples, in the name of "protection and progress". History came alive! Thank you!

The pros: friendly & caring staff, small state park, near a small town downtown (Jacksboro), multi-purpose trail, fishing, quiet, relaxing, and very nice restrooms & showers (with hot water!). Good to know: this is in the plains area and it gets windy sometimes. The con: shower stalls are small (see photo), bring a poncho/rain jacket/plastic trash bag to cover your shower bag/clothes/towel that you place on the in-shower bench. Hope this helps & enjoy!

Fort Richardson was a fun place to hike. The creek water was so clear you could see the minnows and plants easily. Lots of rocks to climb on and trails to follow. The campsites were clean and woodsy. Restrooms were clean and easily accessible at the campsites. I recommend this park for camping or a day trip for a picnic. You definitely have to explore the fort buildings when you visit.

Fort Richardson State Park in Jacksboro Texas. This park is very peaceful and quiet and beautiful. The sunsets at the park are absolutely beautiful. They have tours Tuesday’s and Friday’s one at 10:00 am and one at 2:00 pm. The campsites are asphalt which was very nice very easy to back into. They only have a few campsites that are full hookups. The Rangers and everyone that works here are very nice and very knowledgeable. I would differently stay here again.

Very dog friendly.
Don't know about hiring but it would be a great place to work!
There actually is a swimming area! There are two parts to this state park and they are not connected to each other, which is why some think there isn't a swimming area. The folks at the main headquarters can give you directions to the north part of the park which has hiking trails, campsites, fishing pier and a rather nice swimming area. It has a cover and picnic tables.
