Mary was EXTREMELY helpful and knowledgeable! You can tell that she truly enjoys what she does and cares about the preserve. The area was beautiful! The limestone cliff faces were incredible, and the Prarie Trail had some gorgeous overlooks! The Bluff Trail allows you to climb up through the rocky terrain and have some wonderful views! I'm definitely coming back!

Unique place. Would never expect something like this just out side of town near the port. The pros: the bluff trail is beautiful and a must see. If you like a challenging but short hike, this is perfect. There is a level and easy stretch of boardwalk trail near the lake for those who want that. The main and woodland trails bring you through a variety of landscapes and are not too difficult once you get on top of the hill. The cons: the road to get there is kind of rough and narrow. Prepare to hike with constant trip hazards of rocks and roots and lots of clay on the bluff trail. The upper trails have rocks in the trail but can also be pretty level.

Redbud Valley is way off the beaten path. Despite being associated with the Oxley Nature Center at Mohawk Park in Tulsa, OK the trail is several miles east and south of Mohawk Park. It is not even that easy to find. But persevering will get to you a really nice nature trail. It is a rugged hike so be prepared. My wife and I are both 65+, not experienced hikers, and we made it without incident. However, my wife said she would not like to do it again. I would not hesitate to bring my 7+ year old grandsons here and walk the trail with them. I would not recommend the hike for kids younger than 5 although we did see two or three very young children. I would be almost certain there were places where they need to be carried. A portion of the trail is quite rocky with some climbing required. Only a very few small portions are improved. We made the complete circuit in a little over an hour. It would probably be much more difficult in wet conditions. Parking is limited although the Valley is so remote I would guess parking is seldom an issue. There is a small nature center near the parking area and modern bathrooms. We did not visit either so cannot comment on their condition. They are part of the Tulsa Park system so I would guess they are quite adequate. A nice way to spend an afternoon.

A great way to spend an afternoon- fall colors are at their peak, walking trail with a little variety. Flat land then slight incline, bluff, ponds, cactus, cave. Grab a map, restrooms, a few picnic tables, visitor center. Closes at 5pm Limited parking lot Friendly volunteers Family fun- so close to town.

No. It is a nature trail for hiking only. Given it's name, the place is meant to preserve the natural habitat and keep it protected. Dogs and bicycles are not allowed either. Try an off-road park.

Is it ok to go here in the summer? Are there too many ticks and snakes?

Of the times we have been we have seen no snakes and brought home no ticks... and my son is a tick magnet. Use bug spray if you need to feel safe. This last time we went there were some large honest nests on the rocks faces along the trail. It's a nature preserve so you will come across nature and need to be vigilant in order to stay safe.

Yes. Especially in certain areas. But, it's well worth it. At Redbud it's good to go hike shortly after a rain. You'll stand the best chance to see the natural springs/waterfalls.

Why is the preserve only open on weekends?

My guess is because they do have people there to manage it. Maybe they can only do it in the weekend?
