Completely and totally incompetent. Unprofessional in the extreme. Took over a year to deny us a passport because the application is out of date because of their delays.

5 stars are simply not going to do justice! In my life, I've had the pleasure of meeting quiet a few consular officers. All kind, reasonable, and helpful, but by far, none can compete with how patient, understanding and supportive these guys are. Mary directly helped with my application for visa that I needed in a fraction of the normal processing time. All the questions I had were listened to carefully, responded clearly and all made happen in an unbelievably, short time. The experience was so well that I was ready to post a review they deserve, regardless of the results, whether accepted or not, but all tanks to this team, we also got the visa on time.

They never answer the phone, so you're forced to leave a message, but they return the call later that day. I applied for an Irish tourist visa in November and they had it ready for me to pick up in under two weeks to accommodate for my upcoming flight. Kind on the phone, Just a bit inconvenient that they close at noon to the public. Overall happy with my experience.

I spoke to a very rude and condescending employee who was both uninformed about my inquiries and unwilling to help me. As my family has had other, more positive experiences with Consulate, I gave it 2 stars but based on my experience alone, I would have given it one star.

You will need to get Long form copy of your birth certificate I believe you can get it from the county you were born in
If this needs to be notorized, then take it to any ups store and they will certify the copy. Hope this helps
You will face foreign persons customs when entering into the US and clearing US Customs. Call a US Embassy first and see what they can do.
My grandfather on my mother's side was Irish, born in Ireland. I was able to get Irish citizenship even though my mother was never an Irish citizen.
You could but send it certified or highly important (not sure how FedEx does it). If it's for an Irish passport, consider doing it online.
Just visit the embassy if you can, they're super helpful in person.
Few options: If you're in Ireland, you can always go to a photo shop and get your photo taken. If you're state-side, you can go and get it done where they take photos now (make sure it fits in the box for the hard-copy paperwork). On the passport (I just want to mention it because a lot of people kept messing this up), make sure you have a neutral expression, lips closed, no smile. Should be straight-on. I've done it about a dozen times online with no problems.
You need to reach out to the consulate with your address (using the link below) and they'll mail you the form. https://www.dfa.ie/irish-consulate/sanfrancisco/contact-us/

If it helps at all, I was born in Canada. Became a US citizen, then applied for Irish citizenship. I sent my application to the Irish consulate in San Francisco. I proved Irish lineage through a grandparent. Got this very cool certificate back from the San Francisco consulate, along with all the supporting documents I had sent with the application.
