Shields MRI in Portsmouth NH claims to have an Open MRI machine. This claim is a marketing lie that they use to drive more business to this specific facility. Open MRI's are units with a much larger cavity so that patients that are claustrophobic can have the procedure done. The MRI in this facility is no different than a standard MRI.

This is the second Shields MRI I have visited. The first one was in Boston and the second one was in Portsmouth. I was called in for the procedure almost immediately after arrival and filling out paperwork. The MRI was about 30 mins. long and had music to drown out the noise. I've had several MRIs and Shields does an excellent job of making you feel comfortable and everyone is very friendly and accomodating. I do prefer open-ended machines as opposed to closed, but I've learned to close my eyes through the procedure .

I had to get an arthrogram MRI and picked Shields bc of their Tom Brady commercial. The staff were all very friendly! I was a little nervous going into it, but the technologist Dan took the time to talk me through the whole process. I was comfortable and it flew by. Hopefully I don't need another MRI, but if I do I would definitely return to Shields.

Shields is the way to go for MRI. The front office staff and technologists are very friendly, and the building is great, plenty of parking. You can save a ton of money by going to an outpatient imaging center like this, and the care you receive is the best.
