We had a great time, it's a beautiful hike, the only downside is the peak of the Rock. Usually when you're hiking to the top of something there is a satisfying, "we made it, it was totally worth it feeling" but here it was very anticlimactic. The best views were not for the top but the views on the way up were absolutely stunning. Give yourself a couple hours to get up and down, especially if you have slow walkers or in our case, teenagers. Highly Recommend though.

The hike to the top of Beacon Rock is only about a mile long but over 800 feet of elevation gain. That said, it is very doable for most people and the trail is well maintained. Great views! This can be a very popular trail so be prepared to search for parking on on nice days. The campground is clean and well laid out with nice facilities but like most state parks these sites are fairly close together and offer little privacy.

For those looking to make the hike more challenging, might I suggest going up the trail backwards. Also, wearing a pair of cargo pants or shorts with the pockets stuffed full of quarters will make the hike more difficult. On a warm day, I would recommend bringing 3 to 4 gallons of drinking water per person. Many of the reviews mention how short the hike is, which is true, but fail to address that, at times, you are ascending at a 75 degree angle. This can put a strain on your body, so be sure to get some stretching in prior to starting your journey. Another thing worth pointing out, the golf rule of “playing through” is observed on this trail, which means faster hikers are allowed and even encouraged to overtake slower hikers. This is intended to keep the flow of traffic on the trail from stalling. I would recommend looking over your shoulder every 30-40 steps to ensure you are able to move aside in time when the eventual hoards of faster hikers come barreling through. Easily the best hike in the north west for people who enjoy the risk of plummeting to their death.

I've been wanting to get a good view of the gorge and this was perfect! The switchbacks are a little narrow, so I'm glad it wasn't busy when I went. My GPS took me to the park headquarters, but parking and the trails are across the street. If you didn't bring cash and need a Discover Pass, there's a kiosk that takes cards close to the restrooms.

Jed, if you scroll through the pictures (192) you see several pictures with park grills and possibly a few pavilions as well.
It is Oregon, so yes. In fact, if you don't have one folks will look at you as if you've moved here from California. 😁
I'm not aware of a playground and the bathroom that I used did not have showers. Just running water, toilets, sink, and mirror.
The lower part you can hike right on the River. If a Garter snake startled you, you might get the hickups.
They've got a fairly large group area I would be sure to call and find out if I were you!
Yes this is a Washington state park. U need the Discover Pass. It is $35 per year and can be purchased at the convinience store down highway 14. You can also buy them at most outdoor stores. This is a WASHINGTON park. Oregon passes and national park passes are not valid. It is also highly monitored. There is a pat station on site which you can pay the $10 day use. It is completely wortg it to get an annual pass if yoy will visit WA state parks more than three times a year.
yes
Although I personally have not been camping there I did go hiking there a few times and it's safe to say that there's no wild animals to worry about, other than garden snakes.
The camping area across the highway from Beacon Rock has regular bathroom and a shower. My Granddaughter and I camped there this past June. It's in the upper area. Not the RV area.
It is along WA-14. At the base, you can see and hear all the cars and trucks going past. It's not super loud. You're able to have conversations easily. Once you make it a couple hundred feet down the trail, the foliage keeps the noise down. After the first turn, you hardly can see the road or parking lot until you make it to the top. From there, it's peaceful and calm. Just the sounds of nature.
If you are asking about the multicoloured flag, it is a Tibetan prayer flag
Its chancey but if you go up thier I really don't think enforcement will be able to get you before you get your pictures. It's a fine but I have never seen it enforced
Maybe check with the parks & recreation dept. They do have a little building that the offials use up there. You could take a drive & contact them by talking to them in person or leave a note
We didn't have any problem finding a spot, we went at 330 on a Saturday. And usually it's free parking on the weekends.
Not at Beacon rock but the lower Parking Lot And Boat Ramp You Can Swim
$10 day pass can be purchased at the trailhead or you can purchase it online and bring a print out before coming. If you are a regular visitor, purchase the annual discover pass for $30
.... Indian folklore says Mount Hood through it at Mount Adams they're fighting over Mount Saint Helens whom they both loved. I've Been Told that it's a volcanic plug the landed there and also that the Montana flood formed it only God knows
Free with no vehicle
They close the trail at dusk and open again at dawn.
It's probably equal to the 2 setting on a tread mill. Steep enough to feel it, but a kid or healthy older person could walk it easily. Elevation is about the same as the top of the Gorge: 850 off ft
Yeah I went there a few Saturdays ago and they unlocked the gate
