A welcoming parish, however, the service was very "low church" and to us, did not have enough reverence for the liturgy. Worshippers and even acolytes at the altar were talking at all points during the service, while we were praying, and during offeratory like it was "social hour". Two ladies; one in the pew behind us and one in the pew in front of us were carrying on a conversation about Halloween candy during the offeratory. We were astounded by the lack of respect. No one kneels at the Confession of Sin or during the Consecration of the bread and the wine at the Eucharist and not a single person except us kneeled during Lord's Prayer, people actually sit! Children bouncing around the sanctuary space and jumping up and down in front of the pulpit during the sermon. We saw a sub deacon hand out the host to an enegetic toddler who would not stay in the pew like it was a goldfish cracker. I understand that the Episcopal Church allows baptized Christians receive the sacrament of the body and blood of Christ, but I feel that there must be instruction on how to receive properly and not cheapen a very serious sacrament. It felt like a travesty to us that no one seemed like they were taking the worship seriously.
