Such an amazing place! This is a real sanctuary run by people who LOVE these animals! These animals have been truly rescued and now can live out their lives stress free in nurturing environments that they deserve. Without people like Lisa and Kurt these, and other animals, would be bred for fur, enjoyment, as personal pets and otherwise miserable lives. They are true to the animals and true to their hearts. These wild animals that had not been able to live their lives correctly, because of humans, now are in a true sanctuary living as happy as they could possibly be. Hearing where these animals were rescued from and then seeing how they are living and behaving now, stress free, brought tears of joy to my eyes and through my heart. Kurt and Lisa are inspiring on such a deep level. If only everyone had a fraction of their compassion, sanctuaries wouldn't even be needed. I am thankful for their compassion and love of animals and they truly make a difference in the world for animals that have had lives ruined by humans, until being rescued by the sanctuary.

This sancuatory is amazing! And Kurt and Lisa are doing incredible things. They are so kind and really care about the animals, making sure the animals health and safety are first. Loved volunteering here for the week and would do it again! 😊

This is an amazing place that really looks out for the best interest of the animals. Kurt and Lisa are great people that look to give the best life possible to these animals. I had the privilege to volunteer here last August and I enjoyed every minute of it. I can't say enough good things about this place!

Kurt is the best. He took my girlfriend and I around the sanctuary in his SUV regaling us with information, history and future plans the entire time. He was charming and understanding of my girlfriend's fear of deer flies. She kept jumping out of the car, but he didn't mind, haha. The current location is still under construction, but your awe at the animals will eclipse any notice. We came to trust that Kurt, Lisa and the volunteers truly cared for the animals and were doing their best for them. Far more magical and worthwhile than a zoo, I've been telling everyone about this place.

No we do not - but if you would like to apply to become an intern so that you may qualify for a future paid position, you can learn more on our website at www.forestanimalrescue.org under the 'join us' link.
Yes, volunteers are always needed and appreciated. No experience is needed, we will train you. All volunteers start out helping with projects and, after they have been coming on a regular basis and everything is working smoothly, they can begin to train in animal care if they wish. To learn more and apply please visit our website at https://www.forestanimalrescue.org/volunteer/volunteer-opportunities/
We are a wild animal sanctuary, We do not handle dogs and cats.
Please contact us through our webiste at www.forestanimalrescue.org and provide a bit more detail and we can discuss what you are looking for.
The only native animals we are equipped to take in are black bears from Florida Fish & Wildlife. If you are in Florida, you can call FWC at 888-404-3922 and ask for a list of rehabilitators near you to help find one that can take bats.
You need to be 18 or older to volunteer. We only hire from within our successful intern pool, which makes employees older by default.
Local volunteers can be 18 or older, residential volunteers (paying to stay in our lodging) must be 21 or older.
We do not have raccoons at this time. If you contact us through our website at www.forestanimalrescue.org we can talk and see if we can figure something out for you.
Yes, we have two sulcata tortoises. We have had them for many years.
We don't offer a walk-through, only a guided tour in our Land Rover for up to 4 people twice monthly. The cost is $50/person (all ages) and seats can be reserved on our website at www.forestanimalrescue.org
We don't have sloths at this time but are rescuing animals regularly. We may wind up with some eventually.
I'm sorry, we are dedicated to rescuing wild animals and cannot accept cats or dogs.
Unfortunately no, the only native wildlife we rehabilitate and release are black bears. If you call Florida Fish & Wildlife at 888-404-3922 you can get a list of rehabilitators near you and hopefully one will call you back that can take squirrels. Thank you for caring!
